Stool Issues: Was Dark, Now Diarrreha Early in the week his stool was really dark, but formed. Now twice today, he had diarreha. I think your suppose to feed them rice, am I correct~? All I had was organic brown short grain. He didn't eat much of it since I had given him a bit of fish too. Any other suggestions~? Thanks. |
Bailey has diarrhea more often than he should or than I'd like him to. He has IBS... When he has diarrhea I give him white rice plain (I don't even salt the water when I cook it) and I keep giving that to him until his stool is back to normal. I hope this helps... Hugs! |
Hi, you should not give your dog any table food only white rice (no salt and no oil) or chicken breast (same way) when they have issues like that. You will see how fast she/he is going to recover... |

Sometimes they just eat the wrong thing and have an upset tummy, so they get loose stool. Happens to the best of us huh? LOL Well your vet can prescribe diarsanyl paste that helps coat the intestinal lining and prevent the loose stool into becoming BLOODY loose stool (which will happen if the diarreah doesn't stop). It works like magic, 2 x per day, and hard stool again. Go to the vet and no fish! |

Brown rice is the same thing as white rice except that white rice has been processed to make it prettier. The outer brown hull is removed which is where the nutrients are. Brown rice is much healthier. |
Brown rice is MUCH better for your puppy! Try canned pumpkin (not the pumpkin pie mix, just plain pumpkin), plain unsweetened yogurt (with live bacterial cultures), and add a bit of chicken broth to the rice. Your dog does need some protein, so I would buy a couple of chicken breasts and cook them up for him. Cottage cheese also works great and it does have protein. If the runny stools don't clear up quickly, you need to take the dog to the vet. Michele :-) |

I couldn't find any pumpkin mix, except for the canned which is for adding to a pie. He's not taking any yogurt or cottage cheese, unless he's full from his scrambled eggs. He's now spoiled for the week. I doubt he will eat his dog food from all the real food I am giving him. It's happened before |
Make sure the pumpkin you are looking for is 100% pure pumpkin, not pumpkin pie mix. Hope your little one is doing better. I just had this episode for the first time ever this past week. My vet thought stress was involved. My Coco was at kennel overnight and came home and became sick that evening. I also gave her cheese though:eek: Watch your baby because mine showed improvement for a day and then had more issues.I ended up taking her to the vet and they needed to hydrate her alittle. ( The first time I called them they said it wasn't necessary to bring her in)She also had a temp. and lots of gas. They gave her Flagyl script and told me to give rice with her food. The whole thing started last Sunday and she was hydrated at the vet this Friday and had her first normal stool yesterday evening. Her poop was formed most of the time, but VERY soft. They mentioned colitis:( but said that can be brought on by stress. Good Luck |
I think I will take him to the Vet on Monday. His stool was that yellow color again, but soft and yet sort of formed. Maybe he ate some of the mushrooms that are wildly growing in the back yard for some reason. This has never happened before and I hope it clears up soon. I am making some more rice for him. Yogurt and cottage cheese he is turning away from. Perhaps, he is my Dad reincarnated...he didn\'t like either of those and was a picky eater:D |
Brown rice or white rice For a time my dogs were getting brown organic rice and it was noted that they seemed to have a harder time with defecating. I read/heard somewhere that you should not feed brown rice...It should only be white. All that changed for us as I was tired of making their food. After much research, there are many good choices of dog foods out there. You just need to find the right one. I find that Wellness and Merrick work well for my dogs. I have been through it all. I want to give a  to WHOLE DOG JOURNAL publication. It\'s is a great 5 page of valuable information every month.:animal-pa |
My ISP has been out all day~! He\'s doing better today. He wouldn\'t eat any rice nor cottage cheese. I went to Petsmart and got some wet "Nutro" and he had a feast in the park after he walked. He had no troubles eating. His stool was that same sick yellow color and somewhat formed. He doesn\'t act sick the way he is running around barking now nor when we walked in the park. I\'m holding off on seeing the Vet tommorrow and see what happens. |
Update on Maxwell I wasn\'t going to the Vet today and was going to hold off, but I had no choice since his stool wasn\'t changing. I went late this afternoon and found out that he has an infection. He got a shot, special food and medication. |
