Whats the best food for my yorkie ??? I have a 6 month yr old yorkie that weighs about 2 lb 6 ozs and I have tried Beneful dry,Iams dry,Purina puppy chow dry and Natures Choice dry and she does not like none of them.I know it isnt right but I have given her some ham and turkey lunchmeat just because I wanted her to eat. Can anyone let me know what would be the best food for her,I just got her some Beneful wet food to see if she likes that. Thanks Timothy Blair Sr. |

Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble click on reviews. I would probably not feed any of the ones youve tried.... Iams, beneful, purina, etc. those foods have alot of by products, fillers, and other nasty stuff. Also, maybe try mixing in some canned with the kibble.... Hope this helps!! Good Luck!!! |
Hi and welcome to YT! unfortunately those are all horrible foods so i don't blame her for not eating them. Beneful is the worst of them all in my opinion. Some good foods are Wellness, Innova, solid gold, natural balance, california natural, nature's variety, and orijen. Some of these can be purchased at petco or petsmart, but others you will need to go to a small mom and pop type shop. You don't want to get food at the supermarket, they all suck. |
I had Mimi on Merrick puppy palate and wellness. the thing I liked about Merrick is that you can add little bit of warm water on the food and it makes gravy. Mimi loves it and still till this day I rotate her food between merricks grammys pot pie and wellness for small breeds |
you can also mix Merrick Can food ,they have variety, in with the kibble and slowly decrease the can food. |
Yes definetely no turkey and people food! Way too much salt for their little systems. Royal Canin is good (a bit pricey), but Uni got tired of that after awhile. Now she loves Science diet "Nature's best" lamb and rice small bites. It comes in puppy formula too. It's not by the regular science diet stuff, they usually put it over by the all natural or organic stuff. It has fruits and veggies. I just did the dog food test and it got a 94! It's at petco or petsmart, and it is very reasonably priced, about $14 for a 3 lb bag, sign up for the petco pals and they send you $5 off coupons! What a deal! make sure you just buy 3lb bags, because the food can get stale if you buy too big a bag and they won't want to eat it. |
With a fussy dog, it is best to pick one food and stick with it. Don't give in to the puppy dog eyes and give them something else, or you are sending them the message that if they just hold out long enough, you'll offer them something better than what you offered the first time. I feed Acana Provincial currently. There are three grain-free varieties and I will rotate between them every few months. My dog accepted it readily and is doing beautifully on it. |
I had Ruby on royal canin she liked it but I switched to Wellness small breed super 5 and she likes it to I just switched because it is human grade food and as a treat I mix the wellness wet food with it like a tbls. the sell really small cans and it last the week with two dogs. |
I think the best food is the best quality you feel comfortable with and can afford AND what works best for your dog. I started out higher end (EVO) and now am feeding Wellness Small Breed and Innova (green bag). The higher protein EVO did not work out best for me because I was always worried about the "protein levels" whether the info was true or not. When I got him from the breeder he was on Iams puppy. |
I have had so much trouble getting my Bella to eat. I have tried Royal Canin, Innova Evo, Wellness for small breeds. On Monday I bought some Wellness wet food and started mixing a little bit in with the dry and she gobbled it up, but she started having diarrea. I thought that was just something that would pass as she got used to the new food, but bu Wed night she was throwing up too - for hours, so I took her to the vet yesterday and they gave her fluids and something to stop the diarrea and told me to stop feeding her the wet food and buy some Purina One and just give that to her. I'm so frustrated. I think I've been giving her better quality foods and don't know what to do. Please help! |
Bellaandhelen You might want to start your own post...more answers that way. Have you tried something like CA Natural (made by the makers of Innova and EVO --Natura company) or Natural Balance Duck & Potato? Maybe a food that does not have the typical poultry products will entice her to eat... you know...like lamb, duck,... Sounds like the Wellness canned is to "rich" for her tummy. Max eats it fine though. Sorry I do not have any great advice. |
Thanks- I think I will start a new post. I appreciate the suggestions though- I'm willing to try any food at this point as long as it's kibble- I'm scared off of wet foods now. I'll try and pick up a dag of the natural balance this afternoon. |
My kidz used to eat Science Diet BEFORE the ladies & gents of YT reshaped my head!!!! Bad bad bad food. They now enjoy Natural Balance allergy formula....Clarence is a healthier 12yo, Keegan doesn't chew his paws anymore & Sophie...well she is still a piece of work! |

Which NB do you feed? Bellaandhelen - NB is a great choice. Max liked the sample of Duck & Potato they sent us. I use it as treats now-LOL The Ultra one is the one with poultry Products, fish,... They have the limited ingredient ones that your pup may like. Like the NB Duck and Potato is VERY popular here at YT. |
is the natural balance duck & potato juz treat or can be for daily food?? |
