another question about spaying Bella goes in the morning to get spayed They gave me a paper with all that needs to be done before and after. It says not to feed her 24 hours before the appointment and no water 12 hours before. I fed her this morning around 7, so she has been all day with nothing but water. She is in search of food right now and its killing me knowing that shes hungry. Is it common for them to ask that they not eat 24 hours before the surgery? I drop her off around 9 in the morning and will pick her up at 5, so she will be without food for a day and a half! |
Being without food for that long would concern me too. Our vet instructs, "No food after 8:00 the evening before and remove water by 10:00 PM" You might want to call your vet and ask if she could have food/water during the day today? |
I live in Japan, so its 9:00 pm Tuesday night. So she has been all day today without food. It just doesnt seem right to me. I guess this is the way they do things here. Im feeling like an aweful mommy right now:( |
For me it was no food after 8 pm too. I think thats too long for a small breed to go without food. I am sure it is okay for larger dogs to go that long |
I had my two girls done back in January. I couldn't give them anything to eat after 9:00 the night before and nothing to drink after midnight. That would concern me as well. Maybe give her a little nutri cal before you go to bed? |
Same here no food after 8p and take up the water at bed time. |
Hmmmmmm...now Im beginning to wonder. I should have given her a little something earlier today. When I drop her off I am def going to ask about it. Maybe they have it written wrong...they are Japanese. Sometimes they dont translate everything correctly...... Im worried now:confused: |
that's too long and not even needed. No food after 9 PM here and no water after midnight. They are put on an IV for surgery and given fluids, so they don't have to go too long without liquids. What kind of anesthesia are they using? |
[QUOTE= What kind of anesthesia are they using?[/QUOTE] I dont know exactly what they are using. When I went in and talked to the vet he told my husband and he doesnt remember, I went out into the lobby to get my son. I didnt think about it until we left and I told my husband I meant to ask what they use and he says...oh he told me but I didnt understand what he said.:eek: Yeah I was a little aggravated well, I guess all I can do now is wait until the morning |
Millie had to be fasted 24hrs before, and to be honest, I think that contributed to her death. Because she wouldnt eat after the op, she went too long without food and was so weak I dont think she could fight what was wrong with her. I dont know if you should give her anything, but if I was you, I would feed her and if they cant do the op because you fed her, then reschedule. |
