Pet Insurance I am beginning to look into health insurance for Couver, but I wanted to hear from some fellow YTs before I commit. I have read about all the expensive vet visits on here, and want him to be covered in case of emergency. Anyone here happy with the coverage they have for their yorkie? :) |
I have had pet insurance for over 2 yrs now. You have to really look to see what it covers. I have VPI. The plan I had did not cover their spays or teeth cleaning. Actually it did when I first got it but then the plan changed and no longer covered it. It didn't cover very much anyway. I haven't sent in a claim for a year. I called them the other day and asked if I could still send in everything from last year. They said yes. Pet insurance isn't like people insurance. Make sure you look at the plans really well. If your animal has a pre-existing condition pet insurance will not cover that. I got mine when the girls were puppies. I think I pay about 70.00 a month for both of them. Good luck! |
Hi, I have insurance throw my vets office. I have the basic right now which they debit about 21 dollars every month for and it covers all vet visits and basic exams meds are not incl but they give a discount if meds are purchased threw them. Also if i decide to upgrade of course i would be paying a little more but it would incl xrays and dental. So far so good my uncle introduced us to this idea and recommended our vet and we love the whole thing so far. another option you might considers is just placing a certin amount of money in a savings acct example place 25.00 weekly into a savings acct and forget about it until it is needed for your pooches medical needs an idea that was also given to me. Good luck |
Insurance Hello, We also have VPI, and I can't complain. According to the plan we have, they have covered the past visits, and a portion of Muñeca's spay surgery. Like one of the others suggested, look at what is covered because there are many options for coverage. They automatically deduct the monthly fee from your account, and they send pre-filled out forms that you can ask the vet to keep in their records so that you have it ready to be mailed/faxed to the insurance company right after the visit. Hope this is helpful. |
I have VPI for all 3 of mine and it has been a big help with Cali's numerous vet bills. I just like knowing I have them covered if needed. |
I recently got PetPlan.com insurance for Lola. I paid $160 for one year and it covers up to $8,000 with reimbursement of 90% and a $200 deductable. I got one of the less expensive plans since she’s still young. They also offer plans that cover up to $10K and $20K. Check it out!:D |
I have ASPCA insurance, & it's okay. Pet Plan may be better. I haven't had time to do a cost/benefit analysis. I just renewed, & changed to a "lower" cost ASPCA plan. The original plan covered neutering, & I no longer need this coverage, & this plan cost more. The service representative told me about an endorsement (additional premium) which surprised me. If an eligible illness/injury is diagnosed during the current plan period, benefits will be paid in subsequent plan periods. Sounds like paying an additional premium for treatment of a pre-existing condition. |
I'm going with petplan: The Petplan USA Pet Insurance Advantage They even cover surgery for Hereditary diseases. Hips, knees. I've researched all Insurance Plans I could find and this seemed the best. You also get 10% off if your dog is Microchipped. They have a few discounts. |
Thanks everyone for the replies! I will look into the different plans and see what works best :) I appreciate the advice! |
