Any raw feeders who make their own? I am looking for some yt members who feed their yorkies raw and who either make their own or are interested in making their own food. My Dax has food allergies and I usually feed him a natures variety or stella and chewys type mix. My favorite is Omas pride and since I can't find anything in this area (rural Arkansas ) I have started making my own mixes under the advice of the Omas people. They advise 35% meat, 35% bone (no commercial bone meal only organic that you can get from a butcher), 20% blanched chopped fresh vegetable, and 10% organ (not liver, use beef or chicken heart). My first batch I used ground turkey, brocholli, and added two eggs. Dax has always loved his raw but I saw an extra level of enthusiasm with this...he lapped it up like it was his last meal...lol. Anyway you raw feeders know that variety is important for good nutrition on a raw diet so anybody with any ideas please let me know... |
Have you considered ordering the NV raw medallions online? There are 2 stores here in Tulsa that carry NV but it's very inconvenient for me to get to them. I found a great online store that I highly recommend (& they have free shipping on orders over $50. The prices are comparable to what I'd pay locally (if I factor in the sales tax savings). Their website is www.k9cuisine.com. I would be too concerned about the proper ratio of nutrients, etc. in anything I made myself. But then again, I hate to cook for even me lol! Good luck! |
Thanks for the idea.. I have considered ordering online but have very little freezer space.... I travel for work so only have fridge that company provides for storage maybe 3 bags at most I can fit. I am concerned about proper nutrition... that's why I consulted with the Oma's people before trying it and it is only a temporary solution. I was hoping for input from other people.... I know people who cook for their dogs any they are fine so I am hoping for the same kind of success with the raw... thanks for the reply. |
I buy my pre-made raw locally and I gotta say - it is way more fresh than the nat'l brands I've used. The place I buy it from had their recipes designed by Dr. Randy Frennier (canine nutritionist) and I believe they are probably quite similar to this: http://www.naturesfarmacy.com/UserFriendlyDiet.pdf |
