Bone/chex confusion Hi everyone! I am a soon to be wife and yorkie mommy, and I want to have everything ready when my little man gets here. I'm a bit confused about bones and chews. I know he'll need lots to chew on to keep his little teeth healthy and to keep him out of trouble but I'm not sure what to buy. I know that rawhide and nylabones are out. And I think bully sticks smell awful. I'm already gotten him an Everlasting treat ball but I'm not sure what to do about bones. I know natural is best. But I'm confused over raw, boiled, or the sterilized bones at the pet store. Also, if I do get bones from the butcher and prepare or boil them myself should I get chicken or beef bones? Thanks! |

chewing...no nylabones? I was just about to post that Molly loves nylabones, but got to the part in your post that nylabones were out. Why? She loves them, but I don't want to give her something that is not safe. |
I don't think they're able to digest the little pieces that come off during chewing. |
Bully sticks are a great chew for puppies. Just watch when they get it down to a small size. I pick them up (ewww) and throw them away when I see they are down to an inch or two. Be warned they are actually bull pizzle -- sounds gross but it is a good tendon for them to chew. YT Member AMD has them on sale right now at her online store. Mine also LOVE the Chicken Jerky tenders. If I run out, I have to drop everything and run to the store because they expect Chicken Jerky Tenders when they go outside for business. |
I second the vote for AMD's bully sticks!:thumbup: My two love them, and cannot get enough. Needless to say, they never chew on anything else, like shoes or wires. These bully sticks are all they ever want. |
