Thank you for welcoming us. :animal36 What a world of information!:thumbup: We have had Tobey for a month, he is three months now and has had his shots already twice. I found out that we should not walk him in public places until he gets his third shot. He did not enjoy his first bath. The vet suggested we use a special solution to clean his ears a couple of times a week. He is almost newspaper trained, 95% I would say. At night he cries when he wants out of his crate to go; sometimes he goes only once, but at the beginning it was up to three times. He eats dry food Sci. Diet recommended by the vet mixed with a little bit white rice and one spoon of the canned Puppy Plate by Merrick. He wants to eat out of our hands. We have tried different bowls; stainless, plastic, ceramic, but he'd rather eat in a little saucer when he does. 1.-When we hand feed him he eats the most. At least we have to get him started this way. Is this OK?
2.-Our other concern now is his that his fur or hair from around the eye area sometimes gets in the eyes and they get irritated. He has a hard time letting us clean the sticky sleepies. 3.-My last question is on goggles and/or shoes, do you recommend them?:animal-pa
We have lovebirds and a rabbit, but it doesn't look like they will be friends. Tobey is learning; he sits, shakes, comes for food, gets his toys; but is going to try bitter apple because he is starting to play rough with his mouth.

Hi and welcome to you both. As for hand feeding-you are creating a monster ;) My daughter's Cavalier King Charles wouldn't eat when she first got him, so she took to hand feeding him. He is 2 now and she was still hand feeding him breakfast and dinner and playing fetch the kibble with him. The only way he would eat from a bowl was to bring him to my house and let him eat with my yorkies. Two months ago she got fed up with feeding him and got a 2nd Cav. Now he eats from a bowl at home.
Great job on the housebreaking. Mine are housebroken (kind of) but sometimes they forget.
As for the Science diet-well it's not the best. Look up dog food ratings on google. My daughter was feeding Science but when she found out it contained sawdust switched to Wellness. I think vets get a bonus for pushing Science as most of the vets around here sell it in their office.
I use tearless shampoo on a washcloth to clean their faces and it took a little while but they are use to getting their faces washed. Someone on YT suggested a mustache comb and I use that also to get the gook out of their eyes. You can use a little hair gel to keep the hair from sticking in their eyes.
I never used goggles because I don't let them put their faces out the car windows but if you do they can be beneficial. Mine don't wear shoes but have worn boots in the snow. I don't know how they managed but they got them off in the yard and I had to wait till the snow melted to find them.
My daughter has a parrot and the parrot lets the dog know to stay away from her. It's so funny to watch her chase the dogs away.

Don't feel bad. I have 3 yorkies and sometimes I have to hand feed one of them. About a month ago he had a allergic reaction to his shots and in order to get him to eat I was hand feeding him. My bad. Sometimes you will do what you need to do to get them to eat. Mine don't wear shoes. They wouldn't keep them on even if I tryed it. Enjoy your baby.:)
