The Dog Food Project - How does your Dog Food Brand compare? Good Luck!!! |
i'm sorry, I meant Cesar Canine Cuisine. . . the one with the fluffy white dog on that tub! |
It is not a good food. I didn't know it until I joined Yt and fed my dogs Cesar's. I switched them to California Natural. |
I didnt know!!! What are some other good foods I can feed to my baby??? Do you all suggest dry or wet, or even both? |

I started feeding these to Maddie when she quit eating dry food all together. It was the only thing she would eat, and boy did she eat them. However, she started having runny poo and vomiting. Suspecting it was the food, I took her to the vet just to be sure. She said these are too rich for thier tummies. She compared it to us eating chocolate cake for every meal. I was also told they are lacking in nutrients and vitamins. So in short...not good for them at all. I took her off them immediatly and now she eats California Natural and loves it! |
I suggest dry. Cesar is not a good food at all. Jackson will get it occasionally mixed in a little bit with his dry food (switched between Wellness and Before Grain dry dog food.) Also, I don't think that Ceasar's wet food is an actual balanced diet, if I remember correctly it's not supposed to be sole source of nutrition. |

Someone else here on YT suggested this wonderful website that rates dog foods. Dog Food Reviews - Main Index - Powered by ReviewPost Try one of the 5 or 6 stars rated foods!! Good Luck!!! |
We feed Cassie Royal Canin for Yorkies and she is doing very well. We once bought her Cesar Canine Cuisine and she didn't want to finish the meal and later brought it all up, so no Cesar for her again. |
i have always fed my dogs the Ceasear's wet food (when I feed wet). It is the one food they will eat when they are sick and not eating anything else. I also mix it in when I start weaning baby puppies. and pregnant or nursing mothers. |
Thanks guys! I am going out today, the only brand sold closest to me is Merrick, so I am going to get a can and have Emmett try it. |
Sorry to double post... i just wanted to update you on what I got. I got a can of wellness wet food and a can of merrick wetfood (to see which he likes better) and I also got a bag of wellness kibble. I have been feeding him Purina Healthy Morsels brand Dog Food With Real Lamb & Rice Soft & Crunchy Bites, so I plan to mix that with the wellness kibble to get him used to it since I assume Purina isnt good for him either... right? |

that is not needed in a dog's diet. A lot of fillers! I'm still learning dog nutrition myself but I do know Purina is NOT good, lol. Good choice switching to the Wellness brand. Alot of people on here seem to use Wellness and they have a 5 star rating on Dogfoodanalysis. I buy Jackson Wellness Super5Mix and Merrick's Before Grain dry food and switch/rotate back and forth. He gets wet food mixed in every morning with the kibble. |
Good news everyone! I just fed Emmett some of the Merrick wet food and he loved it!!!! He also seems to like the Wellness dry that I let him taste. I am going to ween him off of the Purina slowly, in 7 days I plan to have him on Wellness dry. i am sooo glad I found this forum because I had no idea about doggy nutrition! |

Im so glad to hear you got him off that stuff!!! Merrick is great brand!!! Keep us posted how Emmett does! |
I just wanted to update everyone on Emmett's progress with his new food. He loves the wet Merrick food, he eats it like it is a drug! He does not like the Wellness kibble so I am going to try something else. Someone suggested EVO. I have noticed that Emmett's coat is much shinier and softer than it has ever been. I am attributing this to his new diet. His poop also looks better than it ever has, if that is possible LOL. Thank you everyone for all of your help or I would not have known that I wasn't feeding Emmett good food. |
Does anyone know of a good natural alternative to heartworm prevention and fleas? I am trying to avoid toxins for my little guys... Thanks in advance for any advice. |
Welcome! I see you are new. I don't know the answer to your question, wish I did. Kaji's on heartguard, but no flea meds since he doesn't go outside anymore. In order to get more responses, you might want to try starting your own thread. If you need help with that, post again and I'll show you. |
Ok so now I need help:) My baby had been sick and was not eating anything! I tried Caesar bc I was desperate and now that is all he will eat! My vet wanted me to wait to change his food (kibble) bc he was new to me and very tiny but now I don't know what to do. He will not eat any kibble. I've tried to mix it and he won't have it. How do I get him off Caesar (which I know is junk) and on to dry kibble again. He is one pound and he is controlling me like he is a weight-lifter:D I have to be really careful bc I don't want him to get hypoglycemia again. |
Obviously, feed him. Try adding dry kibble to his Cesar food little by little. Add 5 kibbles this week, next week try 8. Wean him off slowly, and I usually suggest 1/4 new with 3/4 old, but your having food issues with him and the threat of hypoglycemia. Did you try regular kibbles just softened up in water? Is this the first wet food he has tried? There are a lot of ways to entice him to eat dry kibble. Including boiling plain chicken in water and then poring some of that broth over the kibble. But, transition him to anything new slowly to avoid an upset tummy. |
I have tried kibble with warm water, kibble with chicken broth, baby food, several different better kinds of wet before I tried Caesar. I had heard that Caesar was like junk food for dogs and that they really like it so I tried it. He loves chicken but I felt like the wet was better than the chicken only. When he came to me almost 3 weeks ago, he was eating his kibble fine then he had a hypoglycemic episode, a bad one, and ever since then he has been so picky. He will play with the kibble and occasionally eat one. He loves his treats and I have been supplementing with nutrical advised by my vet. He is tiny so I think at this point, like you said, whatever he will eat, I will let him! Thanks for the advice. I will try a small amount of kibble mixed in like you said. |

I know people won't like what i am going to say and i really don't care. I have an extremely picky eater. I've tried all kinds of top brand wet food and Ella hates them. I feed her Cesar now. She loves it. I've tried to take it away but can't seem to get her to eat anything else. I feed top brand dry food which she likes, Royal Canine Yorkie 28. She's 100% healthy. I know that it's not the best dog food, but i do what i need to do to keep her happy. This is only to the OP. I'm not interested in what other people think. =] |
