Samples, samples, and more samples Okay, I am in the process of finding a great food for Hannah. Iwant something that will give her the proper nutrients that she needs and make her have a healthy, shiny coat, nails, etc..... I read this part of the site religiously each day hoping to get some insight on foods and what would best fit Hannah. I am incredibly thankful for all of the wonderful threads on the different varieties and such. However, I now have a small problem. I used the food sticky and requested samples. I now have tons of samples and some more coming. The question is how do I feed her the samples without making her digestive system wacky:confused: Do I feed her a different one each day? Do I mix them? Please help...Any advice/suggestions are greatly appreciated. |
Trying all those samples sounds like a long drawn-out ordeal that could possibly harm my girl's tummy during the process and like you I have been uncertain how long to give each sample a test before moving on to the next. For these reasons, I have never taken them up on the offer. I really liked Wellness Just for Puppies based on reviews here on YT, so I switched to that and the girls do like it and seem to do well on it. At least until they go on adult food, I'll stay with Wellness. Good luck and post how you decide to do it. |
Eukanuba is what i feed my yorkie, its vet recommended and FULL of nutrients and is especially meant for small breeds to control their weight and treat them with the right amount of nutrients. |
I kinda just put a few kibbles in a tiny bowl and placed them in front of Jackson. I sort of let him choose! lol. |
When I was going through this, I put a few of each kibble in his bowl in little piles. He went after all of them, and after about 20 min, I checked which he ate the most and stuck with that one. I worked perfectly and he still eats eats that kibble today. Only do this once, even if he puts his nose up to it later, he will eat it eventually. But then again, Snickers would never let himself go hungry!! |
I do the same thing. I get Tucker out of the kitchen and get out my little asian soy sauce bowls and put each different kibble in it's own bowl. then I call him in and see which one he goes for. This has never upset his tummy because there is only a few pieces of each and it's just like them getting a treat or cookie. I find this is a good way to identify what they like. Then you have to make sure you mix the new food gradually so as not to cause an upset tummy. Also, I wouldn't recommend Eukanuba. Here's a good basic checklist of things to look for. Don't get a food that has any of these: corn, by-products, soy, artificial colors or flavors. I don't recommend any of the foods at Petsmart, but Petco has started to carry some better quality foods. Wellness, Solid Gold, Natures Variety, all really good foods. Then it just comes down to the best formula for your individual yorkie. Hope that helps!! Quote:

I did the experiement So, I did the food experiment. It worked well. She went for the chicken soup and wellness puppy. I think the solid gold kibble (puppy lamb formula)is a little big for her. She'll eat it some, but will stop after eating a small handful. So, here's a new question.... Which one is better? I've read good and bad reviews on both of them. Can I mix both foods (chicken soup and wellness)? What are the pros and cons of doing this? |
I would read the ingredients (keep in mind that the 1st 4 ingredients is used the most, decreasing as it goes down the list) & deduct from there. Def take out anything that has animal by-products &/or corn. You already did your homework, so that shouldn't be a problem. Organic anything is better than ____meal. The protein(s) should be somewhere in the top 4 on the list. As for mixing the foods, I don't think it's a problem. I do it for Mimi & Momo, little bit of NB Ultra w/mostly NB Venison & SP. I used different brands before...as long as it's done gradually, I think it's ok. |
samples and more samples? Ok, I'm officially confused! I keep reading how everyone got "lots" of samples (or at least those they asked for) and I didn't get ANY! Wondering what I did differently.... |
Did you include your address?? It also might help if you tell them what you're feeding your dog currently & want to try ___. |
