Swine Flu & Pets? Does anyone know if our pets can catch Swine Flu? If it can pass from pigs to humans...who's to say it can't pass from pigs to other animals....or from humans to pets? Anyone have any info? |
I was curious about this too... I'm already over-protecctive of my baby(maltese) due to the new strain of Parvo disease! |
I never thought so but I did find some interesting information on dogs getting the flu. Dog flu Beware Of Dog Flu - CBS News |
On my rawfeeding site someone posted that question. Someone else answered and said that while sometimes it can happen, it can not currently. Doesn't mean that it won't in the future but I think for now, our pups are safe.... |
Apparently, there are conflicting answers to your question. Here's something I found relating to it... Happy Dog Land: Can My Dog Get Swine Flu? ...which states that dogs do not appear to be at risk. But then, I found this... Can Dogs Catch Swine Flu? ...which says that, in a short answer, yes, your dog could catch it. There is also a very nasty canine flu going around. Here's a CDC link about it.. CDC - Influenza (Flu) | Canine Influenza (Dog Flu) Q& A |
They said on the news tonight that dogs and cats cannot catch the swine flu from humans. How could you prevent this maybe a little teenie mask. :rolleyes:My babies don't go on outings with me but I wonder about the babies who go out. There are more than half of the cases in New York. Mostly from a school in Queens. I guess we have to wait for more information. |

No your pets cant get it. I read too that they cant, let me see if I can find the article.. here is something I read tonight... An estimated 12,000 people logged onto a Webcast where the government's top emergency officials sought to cut confusion by answering questions straight from the public: Can a factory worker handling parts from Mexico catch the virus? No. Can pets get it? No its not exactly a ton of info.. but it helps some.. |
Tia has a check up with the vet today and Im going to ask and get info . Ill let you know what is said.:D |
Pet's won't actually get sick with the flu but i think i read somewhere that pets can transport the sickness from one human to another. So say the dog is kissing one person that has the flu then goes to kiss another person that doesnt, that person can get sick. Either way don't let your dog kiss random strangers |

I asked the vet about this today when Tia had her check up and she said there is no chance AT THE MOMENT. |

By the way not pushing our products by any means, just thought I would share since this is a scary thing for us all! |

pets cant get the swine flu.. the swine flu is a pig flu that has mutated itself so that it can live in the human body. it would have to do the same to be accepted into the dog body. but dogs can be a way of transportation for the flu.. thats why my microbiology professor always says, "BLEACH, BLEACH, and more BLEACH!" :D we did a study on e.coli and time how long different disinfectants take to denature the e.coli.. just fyi, lysol took between 10 to 15 minutes to kill e.coli!! USED BLEACH! ;) |
