Rabies shot--- how often? I was wondering about this. I have heard since Yorkies are so small, they don't need the vaccination every year. It lasts a few years. Does anyone know about this? And what about kennels and stuff that require proof of vaccination? I'm not against giving Coco the shot, I just don't want anything to hurt her if she is too small. |
It depends on where you live....ours are given one 1 year vaccination and the shots afterward are good for 3 years. Rabies certificates are given with the injections showing the date it remains valid. |
The Rabies shot is mandated by your local laws. I'm not sure if it's better to dose your dog up every year with a 1-yr vaccination or if it's better to do the 3-yr, but it is mandated by US law to have one or the other (every 1 or 3 yrs according to the vaccination label). The first Rabies vaccination (~6 month old puppy) is always a one-year. After that you have the option to use the 1-yr or 3-yr. I actually heard that there is a 4-yr vaccination, too.... Not sure about that one though. |
We give Lexi and Kayla the rabies shot (which is really a 3 in 1 shot) every year because they are young. I now give Tina her shots every 3 years because she will be 12 May 10th. |
