NEED HELP from toy yorkie owners TEETH CLEANING Hello all!! I feel awful for not getting on YT sooner. My little Deucy is fine and dandy BUT.......in GReat need of teeth cleaning. I've put it off for months because I am afraid something will happen to him while this is being done. PLEASE tell me again about the ONLY type of anesthesia that can be used on toy yorkies. I have found a Vet in Bolivar, MO (50 miles from me) that I am visiting with about it but..................STILL SCARED TO DEATH. I NEED YOUR INPUT on good and bad experiences and what NOT to let them do. PLEASE HELP... Deucy is the love of my life and I could not bear for anything to happen to him. Brenda |
I don't remember the names, but I'll be glad to bump this up for you. I know there are several people on here that can help. |
Isoflurane or Sevoflurane (both gases) should be used to maintain anesthesia. They have to be intubated, so usually an injection of a sedative is given before the gas is hooked up or Propofol could be given before Iso or Sevo in an IV. An IV should be placed before surgery so the vet has a line in in case of an emergency and it is good to give fluids anyway. Surgery should be done on a heated surface. Preop blood work should be done (blood panel and CBC). A bile acids test, urinalysis and EKG are never a bad idea. |
