Another FOOD question-sorry Ok Major is goin on his 11 mth mark soon. From the day I got him I have had to switch out his food 2 times. First food he came home with was Science Diet..... immediately after readin on YT about it, I weaned him off to NB Duck & Tato always adding chicken baby food-- he would barely touch the food but loved the chicken BF. I then moved him to Wellness Super 5 mix--- [the purple bag] He devouredd it, loved it, YUMMY mama!!! --[[[for like a week]]] needless to say, he's back to being finnicky..... Idk what to do. I read somewhere that it may not be the best idea for me to keep adding stuff to his food to get him to eat it, as he will always want "that" any truth to that?? I was thinking of buying some more baby chicken food to mix in, as he liked that. HelllllllllllllllP Lil LuLU plsssssssss!!!! :( |
will someone please respond........:confused: It's going on 6:30pm and he still has yet to touch anything since early early this morning. Barely sipped water too. I rely on this place probably more then I do my own VET. is that wrong? lol |

Take courage! I have changed Nolee's food too many times to say! I do not see any harm in adding something to the food to get him to eat. Have you tried beef, instead of poultry? Just a thought. I presently have Nolee on NB Beef & potatoes mixed with small bites chicken kibble NB. Good Luck! |
I hate to barge in on your post, but is there something wrong with science diet? That is what my breeder feeds her puppies, and what she recommended me to buy for her when I get her. Is it bad? Well back to you... make some homemade treats for him! Anything to get him to eat! |
It seems to be a trend for some dogs to eat more in the evening, keep his kibble and maybe see if he eats more tonight at some point?? Snickers eats throughout the evening, but sometimes he barely eats anything, and some days he finishes it all. I know this is hard for you. Do you think the kibble might be too large in the Super 5 mix?? I remember trying it and the kibbles being bigger than small bites. Pups can get attached to mix ins and not to mention I bet the babyfood is getting a bit messy? I know many people who use kibble b/c it is so convinient. You might want to try parmesean cheese also, many have used it with success. Hollee--As for the Science Diet, actually no, it's not really a great food. It contains corn and some other iffy ingredients that I tend to stay away from. There is a sticky in this section up at the top which lists great food companies. Good luck girls!! |

Roxy (6 mo) changes her feeding times off & on too. It started out 2-3 bites at a time all through the day, then morning/evening, then evening, now it can be whatever she decides that day. I was always concerned about the low blood sugar that can happen, so could not get myself to just put food out 2-3 times a day while she's so young. I've had days when she waited so long to eat I was very concerned yet she didn't appear to be sick. After adding a little something healthy to her food, she would chow down pretty good. At least I could sleep that night knowing she had food in her tummy. She's been such a good eater from day one & it is upsetting when they all of a sudden change the rules on us. I have had to change her dog food 3 times since Jan to find one that works well for her. Not sure I've got the perfect one yet, but we're working on it. Just a few days ago, she worried me. Had some NutriCal so gave her a little taste of that. She lapped it off my finger really well. Within 2 minutes, she went over & started eating. Yea! How's Major doing today? |
I probably tried about 10 different brands of food before i found one Roman would eat...and this is was in wet food! He finally began eating Wellness wet food and after he began to consistently eat that i began adding dry (Wellness super 5 mix small breed) to it. Now he gets about 1/2 wet 1/2 dry. He still doesnt eat all the time, but hes finally not a twig anymore! Some people dont really like mixing wet in, but dont know what i would do without it. Maybe if i had a big dog it would be a problem, but hes so small a can lasts him for at least a few days. Hope you find something that works for you! |
If he's going on 11months, I don't think you should worry about him skipping a meal or two (if you're concerned about hypoglycemia). If they get hungry, they'll eat it. Mimi is very finicky. She'll eat something for a week (ex: kibble mixed w/green beans) & turn her nose on it the next. She'll hardly eat anything for a whole day or two (make mommy worry to death) & devour her food the next. I found that NB Duck & (S)Potato isn't the most palatable kibble...mine didn't touch it. I requested samples from NB. I was feeding them Ultra & switched to Venison & Sweet Potato (they don't have the small bites version yet tho), they love it. If you haven't tried already, try the NB rolls, just grate a little on top of his food, Lamb is good. About mixing other things in their food, I do it all the time. I've had no problems having them eat w/nothing mixed in too. I think they appreciate something different once in awhile. I've tried plain boiled chicken breast, salmon, scrambled eggs, sweet potato (everything unsalted). |
Ohhhhhhhhhh NO!!! Gosh I'm a dodo. He is 11 weeks , bout to be 12 soon not 11 mths.... I'm sorry you guys. He is doin better tho!!! Eating more. he just wont eat his kibble unless it's a lil softened. Is that fine? seems like his gums may be bothering him, teethin??? Soo he wont chew the hard kibble. |
