Balanced Homemade Diet ??? (calcium / zinc) I am in need of some help....Funds are a little tight right now, so I went to the BalanceIT site and got a $20 diet made with human supplements. The calcium and zinc supplements they are saying to use are really hard to find and figure out. I am really getting a head ache from searching and trying to figure it all out. These are the two items that are causing me so much stress: 1/4 tablet (0.38 gram) of Generic calcium carbonate tablet (1.5 gram tablet with 500 mg elemental calcium) per day. 1/8 tablet (0.03 gram) of Generic zinc gluconate tablet (250 mg tablet with 30 mg elemental zinc) per day If anyone can help in any way I would really appreciate it. And if anyone has a basic (meat/veggies/carb) BUT balanced (with human supplements) recipe that they wouldn't mind sharing with me, please PM me. Thanks so much! Nicole |
Hmm, not understanding your question but is it that you can't find a 1.5 gram calcium tablet with 500 mg? I asked them this question and they said: For the calcium carbonate and the zinc, the most important thing is to find a supplement that provides the 500 mg of calcium and 30 mg of zinc. The actual pill size can vary, and these weights are based on measurements that we have taken when weighing out the actual tablet. We just include these to highlight that the tablet weight will be different than the weight of the included nutrient (calcium or zinc). We apologize for the confusion. You do know that the Posture contains SLS though, right? I have three recipes but they do contain Balance IT K (which isn't bad but not quite sure it should be used in a healthy dog). Sometimes nutritionists put a few sample recipes on their sites. Maybe look into that? Then it would be free. |

I found the zinc right after I posted. I would if I could use bone meal instead for the calcium  |

Here are the ingredients: ...so unless they come in capsules which contain the SLS, then yes. I looked into this a couple months back. Then I had the vet get me a recipe from their vet diets selection. It was an egg diet and they wanted me to use raw egg for a liver compromised dog. We agreed that we wouldn't be going there. Really the Balance It K isn't too bad (no menadione) if you can use it. I doubt it is high quality like Nature Made though. Someone on YT may have a recipe for a healthy dog from Dr. W. I'm not exactly sure that that would be balanced though... |
grhhhhh..... This is so fustrating... The Posture - does have SLS and they are tablets Posture Calcium Supplement, 600 mg, Tablets - 90ea This is for a healthy dog, so I don't think the Balance IT - K would be good.... |

Maybe ask Balance IT? Again I "think" Ellie's nutritionist felt like she is healthy enough to eat whatever (even red meat), so the recipe meets AAFCO guidelines. I'm not convinced that the K would hurt a healthy dog. I know the whole supplement thing is so frustrating. |

I did show Dr.W the diet and he said it looked fine, he did lower the sodium though. I didn't know about the SLS so I didn't ask him about the calcium, etc... I don't want to ask him anymore though bc I kinda feel weird about it  IDK... His diets are just so much easier to follow. The BalanceIT is so general and hard to figure out and make larger batches... |
Have you seen this? Wylie's Mom posted this awhile back. http://www.naturesfarmacy.com/UserFriendlyDiet.pdf |

I make up a whole bunch of food, measure it all out into servings and mix it together in ziploc bags and freeze. Then I thaw in the micro daily (or you can pull out 2-3 days worth at a time) and then add the Balance IT. |
