microchips? Hi. I am interested in getting my Bella microchipped. Do you have suggestions for where to have this done? Are there different types of microchips? Anything I should watch out for? thx Helen and Bella:aimeeyork |
Your vet's office can insert a microchip. There are different brands of chips, but I'm not certain any are better than the other. I have mine chipped with Avid. |
Jackson was chipped while under anesthesia for his neuter surgery. I heard it's a pretty big needle but it's a really quick & simple process, better to do while they're under though. Jackson's registered with the AKC Companion Animal Recovery. I think there are a few different "brands." After they insert the chip, you usually have to log online to complete registration, where you put your name, phone number, address, etc. |
I don't know what brand Baxter's is but it is the one that my vet uses. This is the same vet I've used for 30 years. He did it while Bax was being neutered. He said Baxter could take it while awake but he didn't think I could! Now you can feel it just under his skin. Feels like a piece of rice. |
Does anyone remember how much it cost to have the microchip implanted? I want to get Ramsey done when he's neutered in a month or so and want to have the cash saved up for it all. |
It cost me $35 but that was 4 yrs ago |
Thanks. That gives me a ballpark figure to work with. I appreciate it. :) |
your welcome! |
Zoey was chipped with Home Again in January '09...her previous owner paid $50. I must say that I was irritated that it took over a month to get the chip transferred to me when I got her. |
I think Marcel's was around $35-40 -but Wylie's was less bc our local humane ass'n does them for anyone in their clinic (maybe $20?). :) |
Thanks everyone! This gives me a good idea of price range. I already had asked at Ramsey's last visit how much it was to neuter, so I've been working on setting that amount aside. |
or you could get one from jefferspet.com and do it yourself if your brave enough! |
No way! LOL! Ramsey cries like crazy when he gets shots, so I can't even imagine having to do something like that to him myself. I'll gladly pay for the vet to do it. ;) He has to be microchipped in order for us to get him a lifetime dog license. I'd like to do that and not worry about meeting deadlines and paying every year. I'd rather pay one higher fee once than a smaller fee every year. |
Jackson's was $35 including registration and all. |
Duke got his when he was neutered. We are registered with Home Again also, Home Again gives you 2 IDs a year - which is great, I get to carry it in my wallet with me in case of emergency. The ID has his essential info on there and his picture too. I really like them. We went to a local shelter/rescue organization and with the neutering and microchip came out only about $100. Ramseymom - I see that you're in PA, if you're interested in taking the ride to NJ for the price, let me know and I can send you the info. They were great with Duke and aftercare questions from me ;) Good luck |
