Question about neutering Hello I have a question and I was hoping i could get some answers really fast! I am going to have Max my 6month old yorkie neutered in the morning. He is very playful and active and well this didn't come up until about an hour ago my husband said he was concerned that max wouldn't be the same or act the same as far as playing and things like that go. So i told him I would try to find out. He loves playing with max daily so I was just wondering if the neuter would affect that? any advice would be great! thanks so much! Melissa |
Hey! Jackson got neutered about 5 days ago and he's still the same playful guy he was before! The first two days afterward he very tired and very groggy and not himself... but it quickly went away! He still has the same personality! However, I heard it can take a month or more to fully get all the testosterone out of him lol. So I can't give you any long term advice as Jackson just got neutered but I think generally speaking, they stay the same dog but usually calm down a bit! I've noticed already that Jackson has stopped barking so much when I leave a room without him, he lays at my feet constantly and is beginning to get a bit more cuddly with me which I love! |
Thank you for replying so fast:) I'm glad everything turned out great so far for you! Being a bit calmer would be ok I think and I was really looking forward to having it done. Especially because of my little girl she is only 4 months and he drives her crazy humping her...Hopefully he will still like to play like he does now after the neuter. I'm also glad his personality shouldn't change. He is such a great little baby! thank you so much for the advice! |
Good luck with the neuter tomorrow (I think you said it's tomorrow, right??) I was a nervous wreck! Jackson, on the other hand, was absolutely fine! lol. And welcome to YT! |
My Yorkie is named Maxwell, similar to yours. I've never had mine neutered and don't plan on it. I have thought about it, questioned the Vet, and talked with others. I had a bad experience when I neutered my cat, of which I had no choice to put to sleep. I don't feel it is necessary to neuter, but everyone has their rights to do what they want. Perhaps, health issues would lessen as they say but I don't plan on having any surgery myself to cure any disease, and I don't think I would put him thru any either. Until a situation would arise, I would then make my decision to put him or me thru whatever type of surgery. We all make choices in our life, and this is mine. If you don't like my choices, that is your opinion. Please don't hassel me over this comment either. |
It did not change Sam at all. He should be the same playful fellow. Hope everything goes well. |
Thank you all very much for the advice. Yes I have to be there at 7:30-8am. I am very nervous and almost feel like backing out :( also thank you for the welcome! I need to introduce myself soon. This was actually my first post! I just needed some advice before I took him. I am also sorry to hear about your bad experience with your cat :( and thank you as well for your advice. |

Glad to read this subject as my little George has just turned 5 months old, vet said he could operate anywhere between 5 and 6 months, he tries to mount my daughters dog all the time and has just started lifting his leg, his little testicles are showing now also, do you all think it is too early for his op or should I wait a bit longer, he's such a little pup I hope vets know what they're doing, is 3.75 pound a good weight for a Yorkie cause he seems so skinny but is finicky with his food. |
Well I took him today to have it done and so far so good... He hasn't sleep much or been really groggy... He wants to play! The vet said not to let him jump or run or things like that for about 5-7 days... But wow its hard to stop him. I'm just glad the worst part is over!:) |

Glad to hear everything has gone well with operation, I can't imagine how you will stop Max from running and jumping as puppies tend to just want to play and if Max is like George he jumps on and off chairs and runs up and down the stairs just for fun. |
