Food and pancreatitis My bentley had pancreatitis 3 years ago and since then he has been eating Royal Canin low fat, since 3 weeks ago he is not eating good and for 3 days he has been throwing up a little bit in the mornings, looks like saliva but it is yellow, looks to me like his stomach is upset for not eating good, but now I'm afraid, I fed him pumpkin like 10 min ago and he ate it and I am planning some chicken breast for later, my question is what do your dogs eat if they had pancreatitis before, I think he is tired of his food. |
You may need to home cook if you can't find a kibble he will eat. Chicken is actually fairly high in fat and not recommended. Look for kibble that has fish (like Natural Balance Salmon & Sweet Potato) or cook some whitefish along with easily digestable veggies (squash, green beans, spinach) and perhaps some white or sweet potato. You can also use baby food vegetables. Starting on a good probiotic can help too. Good luck!!! |
I found skipping the next meal after he throws up. Then giving a smaller meals of very mild food, such as plain rice for a day or so, then slowly going back to his normal diet typically gets my dog back to normal faster. Is your pup on any meds? Burke is on 1/4 pill of 10mg petcid to reduce the acid, you should talk to your vet about it. I find giving them about 20 minutes before his meal works wonders. |
Hi, My Dinkey has pancreatitis and you need to stop all food and give his tummy and pancreas time to rest. Let him have water. Call your vet in the morning and take him in for a check-up. He just might be having another attack. I hope not, but it sounds like he might be. I feed Dinkey Wellness Core mixed with Wellness Healthy weight...Hmmmmm, I think that's the name of it. I buy it at Petco. I am scared to death that Dinkey will have another attack. It's very painful for them. Keep us posted and hang in there.........ps, Dinkey takes 1/4 Tagamet twice a day for acid reflux. Check with your vet before doing anything. Best to be safe..... |
He threw up the chicken and rice, yesterday;today he ate some of his regular food and pumpkin, he is acting ok, didn't throw up today. He doesn't take any medicine... |
My girlfriends dog has had pancreatitis before and that she feeds her dog the low fat food from solid gold holistique blend only 6% fat, she has done very well on it |
Enzymes Try som digestive enzymes. I use Super Digestaway by Solaray , you can get it at most health food stores . Just open the capsule and sprinkle a bit on his food. |
