got the after morning shot for nina... I used to be a responsible dog owner, but now i have my doublts. I used to be the one saying dont let those two together, shes in heat. Well my yorkie and my chinese crested tied two weeks ago. I panicked and took her within two hours to the vet to get the shot. They say its a 80 some % shot she wont get pregnant. He said the side effects are one more week in heat. Well its been two weeks and shes still turning tail to oswald. He could care less though. She licks her pooty alot too. Does anyone know extra side effects for this shot? patty n nina:( |
Didn't the vet go over them?? I know that there are side effects more then the additional week of heat, I work for a vet and she doesn't even keep it on hand--and recommends spaying over the injection. I would call your vet and ask them to go over the side effects again. |
From what I can find from googling--it increases the risk of pyometra(infected uterus, which will usually result in an emergency spay) and severe anemia. If your girl stops eating, drinking, starts vomiting and laying around more--you need to call your vet. |
Those shots can be very dangerous and some vets refuse to use them. They should've discussed spaying with you. I wouldn't be too happy... |
Shame on your vet for not discussing the serious side effects with you! The injection is called Mis-Mate and can cause pyometra (very serious uterine infection), bone marrow suppression and endometriosis. This is the hormone used as a Mis-Mate injection: Estradiol (ECP®) |

Now I am furious. Also, he said after the shot, this is only 80% effective, so you should of just gotten her fixed since your not breeding. Well tell me that before the shot. now I have to take her back and get her checked and then spayed. I hope I didnt do more damage to her with tht shot I will never forgive myself.:( |
Maybe you need to get a more compassionsate informative VET. Good Luck with your baby.... |
