How bad is ethoxyquin for dogs? According to dogfoodanalysis, Blue Buffalo isn't that great. I'm trying to change Rosie's dog food, but this little brat wont eat the stuff that's good for her:p She finally seem to like Evenger's, but the site said it's not ethoxyquin-free ingredients. What the heck is that and why is it bad for dogs? Do you think I shouldn't buy this food since that's the only thing I'm seeing wrong with it? Trying to find a 5 star or higher food that Rosie likes with low enough protien shouldn't be this hard. |
I would never feed Lady a food that contained Ethoxyquin. Does your Yorkie have liver disease? It is even more dangerous since the liver must process toxins. I'm in the middle of switching the boys from Royal Canin to Wellness's Super 5 Mix with de-boned chicken. They reallly like it. Their teeth were getting alot of tartar on them. I researched and so far the Wellness they like the best. Good-Luck, :goodluck: |
Does Natural Balance contain that bad stuff? |
I think we tried wellness and she wouldn't eat it. Sigh.....I guess we'll try that once more. I don't think we tried the small breed. Hopefully she'll like it. |
Have you tried Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul? It's a five star food and all of mine loved it. The 'Puppy' formula is actually for all life stages and is higher rated than the adult formula. |
I see a dog nutrionist and she highly recommends Eagle Brand Hollistic puppy , small kibble , great nutrional value , my puppy HATED wellness wouldnt even touch it! Eagle Pack Pet Foods, Inc. |

It is a nasty preservative that is banned in europe, I do believe, I would not feed a dog that has this in their food |
how does one know if its in the food? is it listed in the ingredients list? |

You'd have to ask the company if they use all ethoxyquin-free ingredients to be sure. |
Acana does not use Ethoxiquin and neither do any of their suppliers. |

I was planning to switch from Blue Buff anyway because Price will not eat the life source bits, which contains most of the healthy ingrediants. Blue Buff said the the black bits sets Blue Buff apart from the other permium dry foods, but if your dog won't eat them... Is Solid Gold Wee Bits ok? It pays to read the fine print... |

Do you use the Wellness small breed? Wellness sounds like a great product. I am thinking about picking up a bag ot the dry today. I like how they posted "No artificail preservatives." |

They didn't say the food is bad. They just say it includes too many grains. The link is Dog Food Reviews - Blue Buffalo Chicken & Brown Rice for Adults - Powered by ReviewPost. Btw, mine doesn't eat the black pieces either. Haha...they're so funny sometimes. |

My emails and responses from Solid Gold and Wellness: Does Solid Gold use ethoxyquin, butylated hydroxytoluene or butylated hydroxyanisole in the Wee Bits formula? What kind of preservatives are used? Thank you for your email. We do not use any chemical preservatives in any of our foods. Our foods are preserved with a natural tocopherol based preservative called Natur-Ox. Best regards, Solid Gold -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for taking the time to write about Wellness® Dry Dog Food. We are putting your sample in the mail today. We hope your pet enjoys it. Feel free to give us a call after feeding to tell us how your pet likes it! Our foods are preserved using mixed tocopherols. This a mixture of differing forms of Vitamin E most often used as a preservative or antioxidant to stabilize fats to prevent them from becoming rancid. Their stabilizing effect depends on the type of fat used. Thanks again for contacting us. Heather Rowe Representative Consumer Affairs |
Response from Blue Buffalo: Thank you for your interest in BLUE. We stabilize all our fats, fish, and oils with natural, mixed tocopherols, vitamin A & C, oil of rosemary, and naturally occurring citric acid. Ethoxyquin is not added to any of our ingredients or formulas, which is verified by the ingredient panels. We take every precaution to ensure that our fish meal is ethoxiquin free and preserved only with natural preservatives. Thank you for your concern. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions. Regards, Kim The Blue Buffalo Co |
I found that you have to specifically ask the company if their suppliers use Ethoxyquin otherwise they will not disclose it. |
Its funny I havent heard anyone on here saying they feed their dog FROMM? or is it FRON? I dont know... has anyone heard of it? |
I've heard of it but haven't given the girls any. Fromm Family Foods - Gourmet Pet Food, Naturally Holistic They received 3 stars (classic version) 4 stars (gold version) 5 stars (four star version) from dogfoodanalysis. |
