I'm glad you were at least able to get the baby you went for. I was going to try and get one of the dogs from the Winston, MO puppymill in St. Louis (the Humane Society is having an adopt-a-thon this weekend at their 3 main locations in St. Louis folks) but Howie won my heart out. I hope all those puppymill dogs find loving homes though! I'd have a whole gaggle of rescue puppies if I could!! Quote:

Thanks, but I feel like I'm the lucky one! :teeth: Quote:

Howie is so adorable:love: I just cannot imagine abandoning him because he was born like this, probably as a result of a not-so-great breeding program:( How could they do that, it's so cold?!? I'm so happy that you chose him, and he's a lucky boy to have such a great new family:) Did the vet say what the purpose was for taping his legs like that? It looks awkward:confused: |
Howie is very cute! I love the picture of him sleeping on his back, just too cute. You both are lucky to have each other! |
What I'm told is his parents were "overbred" and that when that happens they have a tendency to have puppies with genetic defects. I'm not a breeder, nor do I wish to be, so I don't know if that's true or not - its just what the rescue told me. As for his legs - the reason being his little hips are almost too flexible, and so his little legs sorta fly out to the side. The taping is supposed to help prevent them from becoming dislocated. I hope to find out more when we meet with his previous vet this weekend, and then take his records to OUR vet to see if he jives with the other vet. Hopefully we can get a good treatment plan going for little Howie to make sure he doesn't have problems with those hips down the road. :) Quote:

Isn't that just adorable?? I've seen my cats sleep on their back like that but never a dog. I have a friend with a little peke that apparently does it all the time though. Totally cracks me up! Quote:

yep yep! He is much more stable on his feet when his back legs are taped. His hips are pretty weak and they said the tape will help force him to actually use his legs and strengthen those little hips. As if yorkies didn't already have tiny little patooties, his is even tinier b/c he has no hips. lol. He has stolen my heart for sure! It kills me to leave my babies to go to work every day. Fortunately their daddy is retired and is home all day to baby them. Quote:

Oh he is just adorable! Stories like these just melt my heart. You are such a kind person for taking him in. He looks soooo happy to be finally home :) |
Howie is absolutely adorable! |
Lucky What a lucky pup he is......and how lucky are you to have such a beautiful baby "warts and all" so to speak......the love they have in their hearts is amazing!!!! thank you for being such "special" parents:D |
I once worked with a child who had CP and her legs were splayed out. We used to tie a theraband (those stretchy yellow exercise bands) around her upper thighs for several hours a day so her hips wouldn't be over-extended. I wonder if that would be helpful for your little guy-this way you wouldn't have tape sticking to his hair. Of course, check with the vet. God bless you for rescuing this pup-he deserves to be loved. |
Howie is super adorable! It sounds like you guys were meant to be together. He looks like a very happy puppy:D |
congratulations on Howie... |
Puppy mills in Missouri Hello: I live way out in Oregon and am looking for a Cairn Terrier to adopt and found an adorable one on the Internet, contacted the seller, and then had second thoughts about adopting a dog sight unseen, afraid I might inadvertently be buying from a puppy mill. So I did some research on the Internet and found the name of the lady I was going to buy the Cairn Terrier from, and it turns out that she is a breeder of Yorkies. She lives in Lamar, MO. In searching this website, I found a complaint about her from someone who had previously purchased a Yorkie puppy from her and found a barn on the property full of cages of dogs (puppy mill). If you know of this breeder, could you let me know? I am not sure if it is okay to use her name, but her initials are C. N. Thanks for any help you can give! |
