dental cleaning recommended,what to do? My vet has recommended to have Hailey's teeth cleaned.On her report card it says she has Grade I /Mild Gengivitis. She also has some tartar buildup. She's a little over 3 years old and so far her teeth have always been good but at her last visit they said she needs dental cleaning. The vet gave me an estimate price and it's shockingly high !!!!!They wanna charge me $670.00!!!!!!!!! Before i even consider having her teeth cleaned, is there any product i can try? Has anyone tried Leba III spray or Petz Life ?? Did you have any positive results?Do you think it will get rid of the tartar? Any advice would be appreciated. |

Petzlife works well for some and then some of us won't give it because it contains grain alcohol. To each their own... You could try one of those products but if you see any tartar progression or it gets worse, I would have them cleaned immediately. I'd be very happy with your vet for catching this issue early. Mild build-up can easily turn into something more and even though it is mild, the tartar and excess bacteria is very unhealthy. Unless she needs extractions and xrays, that estimate is crazy. I would hope it includes blood work but that is still too much. |

I agree. My jaw dropped when I read the estimate. Crazy! Try Petzlife (I use spray - some prefer gel) and tooth brushing with a finger brush. I would try that for a few months at least before resulting to a cleaning. Good luck. |
I had my girl spayed when she was 2.5 years old. The vet cleaned her teeth while she was under anistetic. He didn't charge me any extra. |

Hi yorkienewbie, Our vet just recently gave us two products: 1) Maxi/Guard Oral Cleansing Gel 2) Virbac C.E.T. Oral Hygiene Rinse (as far as I can tell neither have alcohol) both products are giving 2 drops 1X daily. We have only been using it for about 1.5 weeks but have noticed much whiter teeth. As for how well it will work....well...that's TBD as we haven't been using it long enough. That estimate does sound really high, does that include an anesthesiologist present? |
My new vet charges around $320 for a Grade I cleaning. Wow, that $670 seems unreal to me!! I called many vet's here recently & prices ranged from $240 to $450 for BASIC cleaning. |

I just recently had both of my beagles teeth cleaned. One of them, my rescue, was really bad...i mean that the back ones were green....they looked awful! It cost the same for each of them and they look beautiful! It cost $145.00 each! I would do some calling around for prices. I did here too and got some ridiculous prices as well! Keep looking! The guys had their teeth cleaned and Zack had 3 pulled and it was $320 total. One Vet office in our area is very expensive and when neighbors told me how much they wanted I steered them to our vet. Check around for other estimates or see if there is a State sponsored Vet office nearby. We have one near us and they are very reasonable since they are not in it for profit. Also, read the ingredients on the dental cleaning solutions. Some contain Xylitol which can be harmful to dogs. Search YT for threads on that subject. |
Runt just recently had 12 teeth pulled, tumor in ear removed and teeth cleaned cost me $155.00. Yes he was put under and was given antibotics before and after removal. The nurse carried him around all afternoon because they knew how insecure he still is. Love them all for easing my worries and my wriddle dogs too. Some of you may not know and to keep you all from thinking "what a bad mom" Runt is a puppy mill rescue and he came to me in this situation. |
