EVO-Please do the numbers with me.... I am trying to figure out how much EVO Cocoa needs to eat. She weighs 2.4 lbs. but is supposed to weigh at least 3 lbs. Weight of EVO: 13.2 oz. Amount to feed: 3/4 or 1 1/4 of a can for a 15 lb. dog per day (I'm going with the larger amt. because Cocoa needs to gain weight.) Cocoa's weight: 3 lbs. (going by that because that is where I want her to go) 13.2 oz. (weight of can) x 1.25 (amt. of can recommended) =16.5 oz. (weight of food for a 15 lb. dog.) So if Cocoa weighs 3 lbs. that is 3/15 or 1/5 or 20% of the weight of a 15 lb. dog. Then take 20% of 16.5 oz = 3.3 oz. of food per day. Could someone please do the math and see if I am right? That seems like such a small amount. Thank you. ~Joanne~ |
Yup, that sounds correct to me - 1/5th of the 16.5 :). Marcel is 3lbs, eats raw, and only gets about 2.5 oz per day. |
I should have also put a question in my thread about the enzyme that I am supposed to give. It says 1 tsp. per 1 c. of dried food mixed with water. What does that equal for canned food? |

Thanks, Wylie's Mom. I feed 4 small meals per day. That's recommended for a dog with EPI. If she gains some weight on this enzyme then I hope to switch to 3 x's per day. Gets to be a hazzle because the food has to set at least 20 minutes with the enzyme, but best if it is closer to an hr. The vet at K-State said that a Lab needs 1 tsp. per feeding and I was supposed to decrease that by a little. No specifics.:( Not even how to use it. Nancy1999 told me that I needed to decrease it and so I did. I'm finally down to 1/8 tsp. per feeding which is what you are recommending. Thank you for the confirmation. |

Hard to say on the enzymes - which one/ones are you using, Joanne? Enzymes are living things, and are catalysts - so in some cases, I suppose they could be "too much" or irritating in that a hyperactive state in the tummy could occur (if that's where they become active). Some enzymes are more active in the intestine too. If there was a major overload, I could see gas/GERD occurring maybe - or maybe some upset, but I think it'd really have to irritate for that to happen. |
