Do Yorkies get colds?
 
I don't really know what to make of this. A couple days ago JoJo started to do this thing with his breathing constantly. It sounds like he's trying to push air forcefully out of his nose, if that makes sense. It almost sounds like a human who has the sniffles, and keeps "sniffling" the snot back in, but it sounds like he's doing the opposite...where he's pushing it out. Could it be a cold? Allergies? I checked his nose, and there's no snot, or wetness.

Also (and this started at the same time as the "sniffles"), occasionally he'll do this rapid breathing sound, breathing in and out really fast, and it almost sounds like he's trying to clear phlegm out of his throat? But I don't hear any mucous or phlegm when he does it, so I'm not sure.

He's fine otherwise, still playful and full of energy. It's just that he's "sniffling" all day, and doing that strange breathing sound. :confused:

Okay, he just did the rapid breathing in and out thing just now again, and I was wrong. It's not coming from his throat, it's still his nose. So it almost sounds like he's got a stuffed nose and he's trying to clear it.

Yorkies most definatly get colds, take him/her to the vet to get some anti-biotics if that's the case. Small dogs are prone to pneumia! I delt with it once in chihuahua's puppies I fostered and unfortunatly we lost one :(

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. :( I can't even imagine going through something like that.

Upon further research in these forums, I've noticed others talk about pollen allergies, and their yorkies' symptoms. JoJo's symptoms sound almost identical, and I just checked the forecast for my area and it says there is a high pollen count, so maybe that's it? Would benadryl help for something like a pollen allergy?

If you think it's allergies, you could give him some Benadryl. The dosage per pound is here:

I'll get him some Benadryl first thing tomorrow, and hopefully it'll help. Poor little guy, I hate to see him suffer. :(

I dont know i could be wrong but i have heard of dog ashtma and that is what it sounds like to be cause my dog's have had cold's but they sneeze alot i dont know maybe he is congested u should get him checked anyway
