Bad Breath Well it's been about a week now the Sasha has been home with us, and she's just the cutes little thing.:) But were wondering about her Bad Breath, our Sadie doesn't have have this problem. Could this be from the type of Food, Science diet. Can anyone advise how to get rid of this or help to minimize it. Any tricks???? |
Science Diet is not THE greatest food -- but it's not the worst, either. If you decide to switch foods, do it slowly and start with more of the SD with just a bit of the new food mixed in and slowly add more and more. Anyways, if she's a puppy (how old is she?) the bad breath is probably due to teething and losing baby teeth. A lot of Yorkies retain baby teeth and they must be pulled when they go under anesthesia for their spay/neuter. There is many different options to helping dogs bad breath... different chew toys and bones. Bully sticks help a lot and they're 100% digestible (just have to get past the fact of what they are! lol) I've heard of CET chews but never used them. They also have Petzlife sprays & gels. It's recommended to brush Yorkies teeth daily or at least weekly. I, honestly, am guilty of never brushing my dogs teeth yet (he's 6mo old) but I plan to begin after he gets his baby teeth pulled out next week. |
bad breath How old is Sasha? Our 7 year old was starting to have bad breath. The Vet found that some of his teeth were decayed and he had to have 9 extracted. And now his breath is not bad at all. |
Sorry i forgot to say she is just under 4 yr's old. And for the switching over on food, She eat here food first then Sadies food, we have to feed Sadie on the counter in order for her to get a full meal. |
If you've ruled out dental issues - then I'd like to say that one of the 'perks' of feeding raw is no bad breath.... I've leaned from this forum that raw is defined differently among many. So my definition of raw is a recipie of lean hamburger, ground turkey, and/or ground venison along with egg, cottage cheese, spinach, rice, bone meal and pottasium - all human grade ingredients. I switched to this recipie when Bailey was younger and she wouldn't eat any other dog food. The switch was a no brainer with all the dog food recalls going on. This recipie was developed by my mom who has extensive knowledge on dog nutrition. Several ppl have commented how Bailey's breath does not smell doggy. PM me if you'd like the recipie and I'd be glad to share.... :) |

If the bad breath is something dental related than this does need to be addressed ASAP. Because it can lead to more serious issues down the road. Good dental care is vital to the health of Yorkies. Because without it it will lead to complications affection other parts of the internal organs. |
