Raw health Hi Group, I am new to this group, but I was informed that there was a chat about Raw Health. I find this to be an excellent source of food for all my Yorkies. They have been on a raw diet now for 4 years. They don't have teeth problems with this diet or bad breath. I think this type of diet reduces allergies and we have fewer vet visits. Also, there is a reduced stool volume. |
There are many people on YT that follow a raw diet for their yorkies and have had great results. i used to have my yorkie on raw but took her off because of liver problems unrelated to the food. i agree, its a great diet with many benefits |
Hi Welcome to YT!!! I tried Raw awhile ago when Daizy was younger...but she hated it.....however lately she wants RAW all the time...so I'm thinking of putting her back on it... I did love the Poo'ing ONE time a day....I have her on premium food and I find she's still Poo'ing like 3 x's daily...ugh... Hope you like it here!! |

I really like the idea of RAW, but my vet does not. She pressured me to take Missy off of it and put her on homecooked. Missy prefers the homecooked but I'm debating putting her back on half raw/ half homecooked. Anyways, if you do a search there is a ton of info on here about RAW. W*E*L*C*O*M*E to YT! :) |

My sister feeds raw, I purchased the Instinct kibble and the NV Core kibble and even though the website I purchased from had it under "Raw Diet" she has several poops a day. :( I guess we will have to go fresh raw if we want the poop issue resolved. I know, I knew that it wasn't "raw" when I purchased it. I just hoped it would be like raw. |

The bacteria on the meat is not harmful to your dog. Remember, their digestive systems are designed to deal with meat that lies around in the grass, maybe for days! Their stomachs can handle e.coli, salmonella, etc. without any damage to their health. Humans don't have the same enzymes as dogs and can't handle the bacteria, therefore the food has to be cooked to a certain temperature for humans. |
I've been feeding my older dog Raw for a few months and he loves it. I love the less poop :) |
Hi Pam!! Welcome....I'm with you...LOVE RAW, check out this thread where we went on and on and on about it;) http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ge-nv-raw.html Missy's mom...how are Missy's teeth on the homecooked?? I hear they can get bad...but I understand some pups do very well on homecooked. I also know MOST vet's do not recommend raw diets...it causes less health problems and therefore--less vet visits. I would never think vet's would wish for pup's to be on less than the best foods, but am not sure why vet's don't recommend raw. My vet was honest with me and told me she did not learn much in med school about nutrition!! What the?? They just specialize in health/body...don't nutrition and health/body go hand in hand?? Makes no sense!!!!!!!!! |
Welcome, my dog loves raw! We recently switched to raw from a premium kibble. The difference is amazing. Less poop, better breath, more shine to her coat, and she just seems more satisfied. I am very happy with it. I haven't brought it up with her vet yet. Not sure what he will think. But i have to do what I feel is best for her. :aimeeyork |
When I told my vet that I was switching to homemade raw - she said "oh really? I specialized in dog nutrition - so what's in your raw diet?" I told her hamb, turkey, rice, eggs, spinach, cottage cheese, bone meal, potassium along with a multivitamin and fish oil caplets". She said that sounds very nutrious!!! Yay, its great to have the vet's approval :) Yep, I'm a raw believer!!! |
