specific gravity high-should i be concerned i took sammy to the vet in nov of 2008 and i had his urine tested. they said it was fine, but when i took him back a couple of weeks ago for his loose front teeth i asked them for a copy of his urine report. everything to me looks normal, except for his specific gravity which it states is high. the normal range is 1.015-1.050 his was 1.055 it does not seem much higher than the normal range, but i am a little concerned because in the past couple of weeks i noticed every now and then he pees a normal pee , then squats again and either nothing comes out or a drop comes out. should i be concerned about this or is there anything i can give him to help this. thanks all you guys for all your help |
That doesn't seem too concerning. Has all of his blood work come back normal? He may have been dehydrated that day. If he is squatting to pee and nothing is coming out (even if this doesn't happen everytime), he needs a urinalysis again anyway. It could be a UTI or stones... |
the vet has never taken his blood. he is going to 4 years old in july. he just did the urine testing. sammy never drinks water himself, i add it to his food (honest kitchen) so he gets a total of 1/2 cup per day. the only reason i took him to the vet with his urine is because his pee was more of an amber color and not clearer. the vet was not concerned about the results, i just asked the other day for the print out of the results. i asked about the results on here, because i really do not trust vets nor doctors 100%. i wanted to be sure. thanks for responding to the thread |
4 yrs old and not a single blood test? YIKES:eek: I would definitely try to find another doctor. As far as the urine results...a little bit over for specific gravity isnt too much to worry about...its if it comes back much higher. That basically tells you if you're drinking enough water and clearing it ok. |
