heat question im not quite sure how to explain this but im wondering if bailee is going into her first heat...she turned 7 months yesterday...today she was laying beside me on the couch and i noticed her um part...is quite swollen and normally it is facing down but now i can see it from behind in between her legs...like where a boys parts would be...does this make any sense?just curious...she doesnt seem any moodier or agressive. |
Yes she sounds like she is in heat or very close. Is she licking herself alot? This is another sign. There cycle will last about 25 days and the 8th thru about the 16th day will be a very fertile time so be careful it only takes a spit second. Are you going to have her spayed? |

If she was licking a lot last week, are you sure she didn't bleed already? If so, this would be about the time for clear to pink discharge. Otherwise yes, it does sound like she is going into heat and I'd personally postpone the spay. |
im pretty sure she didnt already bleed...she sleeps wit me everyite and i have white sheets so im pretty sure id notice it,even if it was a lil...there is no discharge...just pretty swollen...if this is heat would it harm her to continue with the spay? |

Oh goodness...Im going through this with my Zoey as we speak! She started her first heat on March 27th. I hadnt noticed any signs that she was about to so when it came i got all emotional. haha. Its still going on and i feel like its never going to end! I went out and bought her some puppy diapers from Pet Co. but i gave up on them. They were such a hassle because id have to take it off of her when i let her out to go potty, then had to try an put another one back on her and she didnt like it at all! She would just sit in the middle of the room. i guess she felt like she couldnt walk. Zoey sleeps with me every night and i gave up on trying to save my comforter. Sad to say, but there are stains every where. Im going to get her fixed in probably 3-4 months. Also, her genitals and nipples are swollen...will they go back to normal when shes out of heat? |
ok ,bailee has definately had alot of discharge and she is licking like crazy...also last nite she had bad diarhea...is this from bieng in heat or do i have a sick baby on top of everything else? |

I'm not saying it's not possible, but it isn't generally a symptom of heat. It is a symptom of pyometra which is highly doubtful in this case (since she is so young and it hasn't been a few weeks since heat ended). |

ok,i will watch her closely...she has giardia before so maybe that is back...it looks the same as when that happened...im going to make her some rice to maybe soothe her stomach and if se isnt ok tommorow or gets worse,we will go to the vet...when she had giardia she only got sick at night...it was very specific... |

Could Addie be going in to heat too? She just made 7 months Monday and last Saturday I had two spots of blood on my shirt, but when I wiped her there was nothing so I'm not sure where it came from. There's been nothing that I have seen since and I have light carpet and tiles and green furniture and sheets so I'm sure I would have noticed. Last night she was licking herself a lot more than normal and she laid at the bottom of the stairs instead of on me. Could these be signs it's about to happen? |

When Ellie wasn't spay and came into heat, I'd sometimes know because she was lethargic or her breath smelled weird but I would only see a very small spot or two of blood the whole time. |

If you are looking for globs and globs, you could get a Great Dane. :) Sheets, pillows and shirts were common areas for Ellie's discharge to end up and the spots were probably less than half the size of a pencil eraser. |
I don't believe your dog has a infection. The swelling is a big sign of a bitch going into heat. ooppss, only terminology ladies! And getting the runnies is, loose, watery stools, another sign. I simply think that she is in heat and that's it. Very normal. I would only get concerned if I saw a little green. Don't think you'll see anything at all just your baby in heat! Thank you so much for all the help! I don't want globs and globs, haha, but I guess I was expecting a little more than the two drops I saw. You're probably right Heather, she's probably keeping herself clean. I had her spay appt set up for May 7th, guess I have to postpone it now. |
