Separation Anxiety Does anyone experience separation anxiety with their dog?? What’s the best way to prevent it? My little girl has separation anxiety and we are working on overcoming it...slowly! |
I have a lot of issues with Baxter too. He struggles to stay all of 5 minutes on his own before he starts barking non-stop. I've tried to leave him in his ex-pen for short periods of time and coming back but he doesn't seem to get the point. I really wish I knew a sure fire way to help him with it. Walter |
Couver has separation anxiety bad... so I take him with me as much as possible. This is probably not the best thing to do, but it is what I feel is best. If he is happy, then I am. We try to only be gone for short periods of time if we are away from him. He is getting better, but he still gets VERY excited when we come home. It is good to know you are loved :) |
Lola gets super excited when I come home too. I was told to ignore her for 5 min then greet her once she has calm down. I hope she gets better as she gets older :) |
In my 20 years as a dog owner, i have to say separation anxiety has been the worst thing I've encountered! my poodle, abby, has terrible s.a. also. i thought i had tried everything (including drugs, which didn't work). I think ignoring them when you come home for 5 minutes is great! Also, don't leave the house until the dog is calm. If that means sitting down and reading a book for half an hour after you pick up your purse..... but it really works!!! When I got sammy, abby's seperation anxiety disappeared! It seems that if one dog is calm and dominant, it causes the other dog to act like them! plus, i don't leave until abby is calm, now. |
