Finicky Eater I have a six month old male yorkie named Elmo. He recently recovered from an undiagonosed illness and had been eating well. He has now decided he only wants chicken, no kibble. He has lots of energy and no fever. Any feeding suggestions would be welcome. Thanks, elmosmom :animal36 |
Excuse if this can sound a little rude but I would try to give him kibbles as soon as possible . Gazou tried this with me after a little illness , I gave him his food and he refuses , I take it back . Later I tried again with the same result . The third time , he accepted right away . A healthy dog will never starve itself to death . |
I agree if he feels you will give in and give him chicken he will continue to reject his kibble. Just keep offering him what he is suppose to be eating and even try and feed him out of your hand until he gets back into the habit of eating what he is suppose to. Teddy used to pull that with me all of the time but now he knows if he doesn't eat his kibble he doesn't get any treats either. |

Finicky Eater Thanks to all of you for your replies. Sorry it took so long for me to reply. Elmo has been vomiting mostly in the morning about every other day. This dog has boundless energy, bright eyes and a good appetite. As I said before no fever no other symptoms. I am beginning to think he has a food allergy. I have been researching it and the vomiting as well as a couple other things such as rubbing face on carpet biting at hind quarters an smelly ears (no mites I checked) all seem to be symptoms of food allergies. Maybe this is why he turns his nose up at his Kibble! I think I am going to try one of the brands I see on the threads with lamb and rice. I will see what our pet stores have to offer. Thanks for your support. Elmosmom :animal37 :animal37 :animal37 (elmo on his daily walk) |

I would definitely keep offering him his dog food when he gets hungry enough he will eat it. What I've had to do before with Mollie is just hand feed her until she sees that hey this isn't bad stuff. Myself I prefer the lamb & rice not sure why. I feed all of my dogs lamb & rice dog food. I've never had any problems with it. |
Thanks for the advice. My husband had lamb last night for dinner and gave Elmo some he seemed to like it. So I guess its worth a try. Elmosmos |

Oh by the way welcome to YT I didn't realize that you were new here. |
My dogs eat Royal Canin right now but when they are done i am switching to a better quality food. I also give them lil Caesars in the morning as a treat. That way they are getting some variety. |
Royal Canin was his first food he quit eating it after about a month. I tried Lil Caesars and he also turned his nose up. Seems like I have a stubborn pup. Well off to the pet store for me. Thanks, Elmosmom |
Welcome to YT. I agreed the kibble is better for Elmo. But I agreed some pups can be very finicky. If Elmo is being vomiting once in a while i will get him check, maybe he has a sensitive tummy. Sometimes the vet has to rx a special diet to doggies with sensitive tummies. Like someone mentioned tried mixing the pieces of chicken with the kibble. Dont offer him no table food cause then he will not eat his kibble. Good luck. |
Finicky Eater Once againg thanks to all of you for your suggestions and support. I love Elmo so much. I bought him some new food so far he is not interested. He gets probably only one more day and back to the vet we go. I don't want to take any chances with him. Once again. Thanks to all of you. Elmosmom :aimeeyork |
