Questions regarding spay I still have about 2 months before it's time to get Madison spayed. She is 4 months and 6.7 lbs. It costs $105 + $5 for each tooth. I have read on here a while back about testing before being spayed. (I'm not sure if this is included in the $105 or not.) What kind of testing? What's it for? How necessary is it? I know prices differ but around about how much would this testing cost? Thanks!!:) |
Preop testing just checks to make sure everything is functioning properly. If there is something wrong with the liver, kidneys, heart, etc. the surgery may be postponed or the anesthetic protocol altered. A blood panel and CBC should be done. Beyond that there are other things that are a good idea but rarely done like urinalysis, EKG and bile acids testing in Yorkies. |
Spaying I just had my Lola spayed three weeks ago. On my bill all it says is pre-op chemistry $45.50 so I can't answer your question but it does give you an idea about cost; I'm in a suburb of Chicago. The other thing I've posted before is getting a coupon for the spaying from "Friends of Animals"; it will cost $90.00 but my vet knocked off $143.00 for using coupon. Look at their website if your interested and most important make sure your vet will honor coupon first and get an estimate with coupon to see if it's worth it for you. |
Oh I forgot. Preop blood work is about $100 here not including EKG, U/A (between $25-$40) and bile acids testing (about $75). |
You want a detailed blood panel...not simply the routine panel which is usually done the morning before surgery. The detailed panel usually requires you bring them in a few days before so the results are completed by the date of the surgery. I can't remember what I paid, but the office would surely provide you with the cost over the phone. I think mine was $125. |
