Not herself since being SPAYED My 8 month old Yorkie, Roxi was spayed on 3/26/09. It is now almost two weeks later, but she is still not herself. She appears fine physically, but mentally she is a little "off." She is walking away from treats and toys with no interest.... she would have 'attacked' previously. She will not respond to basic commands like sit and lay most of the time. I don't know why she is acting this way. She was more herself 4 days after surgery than she is now. Has anyone had a similar experience? Please help! |
If she is still very "off", has the vet checked her? There could be something like an infection going on... Is she off all pain meds now? If the vet says she is okay, then the next guess would be the altered hormone levels. She will likely return to normal in a couple-few months if that's the case. :) |
I haven't had Romo neuteured yet but I was reading on a few threads in the General Disscusion and Training forums and that seems to be normal |

I do have an appointment with the vet on Friday just in case. My husband thinks I may be overreacting, but she just doesn't have her normal personality back. |

My boss had his dog neutered by the same vet and I happened to be there when he came to pick him up. He was completely fine. No pain or grogginess at all. Roxi was practically dead to the world for two days. I was kind of thinking maybe it was the anesthetic they gave her?? |
For a couple months after Ellie's spay she seemed more snappy than normal and just not quite herself. She is normal again. They can slow down after being spayed but most probably don't. I'd be most concerned about things like walking away from treats and would talk to the vet. |
My Roxy was spayed on the same day and when I picked her up she was groggy and a little out of it till morning. When we got up in the morning you would of never known she just had surgery. It was really hard to keep her relaxed and calm for a week. Her personality did not change at all nor did her appetite. I was really worried because she had to have 7 teeth pulled and was prepared for some finicky and soft food. But I just added a little chicken broth to her food to soften it and she ate it right up like shes never eaten before. I would def. call your vet and just ask them. I hope she is feeling better for you soon. |
