Flea/Tick Meds can kill your babies...pls. read Flea/Tick meds such as Frontline Plus and Advantage can kill your pets. After administering 1/2 dose of Frontline to my 4-lb. Yorkie, Gabby, she began running around and rolling trying to rub it off. I did some research (by entering in search "flea/tick meds") and pulled up a website, Shirley's Wellness Cafe" that explained how toxic these meds were to pets and humans... including heartbreaking testimonials that pets had died within hours of receiving them. There is an alternative natural spray that is actually cedar oil that is effective and not toxic to pets or humans but kills fleas, ticks and mosquitos. Please don't poison your babies by putting insecticides into their systems. Do some research on this subject. You will be shocked at how dangerous these meds are. |
I agree with you. I don't use these products either, we go all natural. |
It is true that it can effect some pets so adversely that it can kill them. However, there are millions of pets that use these medications every month with no adverse reactions. Vets give this medication out to all their clients and rarely do clients question them. I believe that all pet owners need to question the medication they are giving their pets and make their own decisions on whether or not they want to give their pets the medication. My cat does the same thing your gabby did when he gets his revolution every month. With him i think its more that he doesn't like the wet stuff i put on his back. this happens with a lot of pets. however with some that do this behavior it could be that they are itching or there is a slight burning sensation because they are allergic to it or it causes irritation to the skin or scent glands. I personally do not use flea medication or heartworm medication on my yorkie anymore. I did for the first summer but then decided i didn't want to use it on her anymore. In my location i haven't had a problem with finding fleas or ticks on morgan, nor is she outside enough to have a problem with these bugs or mosquitoes. I wash her once a week with Minksheen which has Cedar and Citronella oils in it to repel bugs. MinkSheen Pet Shampoo |
What is one to do?? I have found 3 ticks on Maddie this year already? I live in East Tennessee, the summers are humid and the mosquitos are horrible here. I have had a few family members to own dogs that developed heartworms. I certainly don't won't maddie to develop that or disease from ticks/fleas. |
very confusing, what to do??? |
I no longer use a flea/tick preventative. I bath with Minksheen and we get a yard treated. I do still use heartworm - Intercepter (May - October) as we are heavily inundated with Mosquitos in our yard during the summer months. |
Cedar Oil What beautiful little Yorkies you all have. Kalina...thanks for the info about the shampoo...I am going to try it. The cedar spray (called Best Yet) is supposed to ward off fleas, ticks, mosquitos (which cause heartworm), etc. It is also used for humans instead of products like Off. It was originally formulated to rid the soldiers in Iraq of sand fleas instead of using toxic insecticides. MaddiesMommie.....I know what you mean about ticks in the South...they are horrible!!!!! We all have to make our own decisions on what to use for fleas/ticks/mosquitos on our babies. I just wanted to pass this information about cedar oil on to everyone. |
