Bad Bruising on Tahoe (Cushings) 2 Attachment(s) Tahoe was tested Wednesday for Cushings Disease and came back positive. They did blood draws and the ACTH test. Well, today, he was laying down on his side on the bed when I noticed that his upper left chest up to his neck is bruised a very dark purple. Is this normal? I know some vets take blood from the jugular, so maybe this is why it's like this. But it's DARK. I've heard of "pink" necks after blood draws, but this is DARK purple. Photos attached. I called the vet and, being Saturday, neither of Tahoe's usual techs (who I love, by the way, so I don't think he was mishandled) and the vet are out today. The vet on duty said that if he doesn't seem hurt and he's eating and drinking normal, then it's probably just from the struggle during the draw. He said that if the bruise spreads up and to the back of the neck, then I should take him to the nearby emergency hospital. Does anyone else think I should be concerned? Or has anyone seen similar bruising on their dogs? He's 15 and has Cushings. ~ Kelly |
Don't panic. It's normal for jugular blood draws to leave bruising. When Lady had her HGE in September and was hospitalized, she had multiple blood draws. her whole chest was purple when I brought her home. |
