How long do your Bully sticks last? I was happy to find this treat that my dog likes so much, but they are pretty expensive. Expensive especially when she eats them so fast!! I bought a package of 3" sticks and she eats one in about an hour and a half. I just gave her a 10" stick an hour ago, it is now 7" and she hasn't slowed down a bit eating it. I remember that post about (by) a dog that had lost his bully stick and was looking for it. I don't think that could happen to Daisy's!! She isn't taking her eyes off of it. You would think it was a steak! Oh, and I just found out yesterday that it was bull penis. ugh. I get it that meat is better than hide, and just thought it was really tough beef jerky. I didn't know what kind of meat... |
I really like the Merrick brand; they are super hard. Joey gets a week out of them. I held one last night while we watched a movie. For over 2 hours he chewed, and he barely made a dent in it. He's had raw hides before I knew they weren't 100% digestible, and he goes right through those. Merricks are more expensive than some but they last so much longer they are worth the money. Here's a good deal on Ebay, and if your order is less that $20.00, shipping is free. Merrick Bully Sticks 6in - eBay (item 180307587659 end time Apr-17-09 15:11:43 PDT) Actually, I'm not sure about the shipping, but the price is good for the Bully Stick. |
lol the ones i used to get only lasted a few hours too...i was always amazed at how fast they ate them!!! per nancy1999's recommendation i purchased the merrick brank bully sticks. my kids have had the merrick flossies but ate those pretty fast as well :p well i LOVE the merrick bully sticks! they are a lot harder i think and they also come individually wrapped and vacuum sealed. they are a little pricy (the 6" one i bought was around $4) but they LAST forever!!! i got the bully sticks last saturday and my kids chew nonstop on them and i think the 6in one is still about 5in long!!! and the smell is not that strong. i can only smell them when i pick them up and sniff them lol. some other brands i have tried before i could smell them across the room  :) |
nancy, GMTA!!! :D thank you so much for your recommendation on these. we just love them :) |

Missy's 2 Bullysticks that I bought her when she was 9 weeks old are still chewable and she's 7 months old now! There is still about 1/2 - 2/3 of them left. I found something new at my local pet store. It's a rolled salmon stick. It's just like a bullystick but made out of salmon. She LOVES it, even more than the Bullysticks. It stinks though! |
Keegan is a strong chewer & he can do away with a stick in 20 min. HOwever! The braided ones from Westbrook Yorkie last for days. Also when I buy them at Petco, I get the 14" one (it's thicker) & DH saws it in half. |
I know the price $2.49 is a great one, I think I had to buy around 100 to get close to that price. It's not clear to me when they say "Deal alert: Less than $20 per item, including shipping" if that means that if the item is less than $20.00 that includes shipping or if they are just saying here's something for less than 20 bucks on ebay. I thought at first it would be an inexpensive way for people to try it, but not if you have to pay 7.99 for shipping, and I think that is what they mean. The good news is that 7.99 is the most you have to pay in shipping, no matter how many you buy. Txrosegirl, the ones I bought were also individually wrapped, and I just measured them, and while some are a hair under 6 inches, many are a little over 6 inches. If yours are only 5, I think I would complain, especially at that price. I think there are lots of different vendors, and they all seem to charge different amounts. I haven't tried the Flossies yet, but they sound like they would be better for the smaller 3-pounders. They look so cute, and I can just picture them in an Easter basket. :D |
It takes Piper a good week to finish a Bully Stick. How small do you let them get before you throw them away? Once Piper has them chewed down to about 2 inches I get rid of it. I'm so afraid she is going to choke on it. |

Mine must just gum them or something. They love them, but they last forever. Sometimes they get stinky from chewing on them and I just throw them away and start over with a new one. I think they are a bit gross considering their source and the way they get gooey from chewing on them but .... they like them and they usually get what they like. Nothing takes the place of the Chicken Jerky Tenders though -- those they eat immediately and they expect them every time they come in from outside. Ben, the littlest one will go out, turn around and come right back in and then go over where I keep the Chicken Jery Tenders waiting. I have to tell him, "NO! Only when you potty." Then he dances around in circles and I give him his Jerky Tender. I'm stubborn but he eventually trains me to do his bidding. |
Piper is not a gulper and she chews her food like a proper lady. I think I'm just a worry about everything that could happen. Thanks for the idea with the Kong. She does enjoy getting her treats out of the Kong. |
I've gotten Riot two 6'' braided bully stick from PetCo, they were either $3 or $4 a piece but they seemed to be the only ones he liked when I held a few different ones out for him to sniff. The first one we've lost because he chewed it down to about 2'' in about a week and hid it somewhere and I can't find it. The second one has only been chewed down about and inch, inch and a half in about a week, but he seems to love to chew it for a bit then go and hide it and won't discover it or bring it back out for a day or two, I really don't know what his deal is with that! When you first give it to him a nuclear explosion couldn't distract him but once he starts hiding it, he only like to chew it for a few minutes at a time. |
My daughter bought some from someone on YT and she gave me a few to have the dogs try and they have lasted along time. |
I buy the 6" twisted ones from Westbrook. They last about a week and a 1/2. All depending on if I can keep my other dogs from stealing them:p |
Bully Sticks are the greastest ! I agree that they are expensive! And yes, Expensive! I just bought Suzi anther one yesterday at Petsmart. I spent around $7.89 on this one:eek: However it was a longer thiner one... Not braided like the one I usually give her, thinking it might last her longer than the braided kind. I like them because it keeps her busy and happy. Thses are the only ones she hides, LOL .The funny thing is that she is the only dog here. There's nobody going to take her treat away! What's unpleasant is when Suzi gives us kissess after she's been chewing on her bully stick ~ |
I'm glad you posted this! My two LOVE LOVE LOVE Merrick stuffs!! Bully sticks last a week or so -- but their true love are their Merrick flossies -- and they last maybe a few days or so. So I limit their time with them. I bought 4 this week, and my bill was $31.00!!! They're $7 each, at the rate my two will eat them, they could easily go through that in one week..... and my current budget doesn't allow for $120 a month in flossies!!! So I'm limiting them to 1 a week, each. They sure do keep them busy and love them though!! |
