So worried about my Bella Hi guys, Today I was on my way home from work and my boyfriend called me to tell me that there is something wrong with Bella's leg. When I got home she was not walking on her right back leg at all so I took her straight to the vet. The vet said that she may have a pulled ligament on her knee, she has not been yelping and does not seem to be in pain but she just does not use her leg. The vet gave her a pain killer anyway and gave me a course of anti-inflammatory tablets for 4 days. If it has not cme right in 5 days she will have to go for xrays and I pray that this will not be necessary. Besides the sore leg, she is her usual self, running around like crazy although she is just on three legs. Please keep my Bella in your prayers. I really do not want anything bad to happen to my baby! |
I am sorry to hear about Bella but I will keep her in my prayers, keep us posted on how she is doing. |
I'm sorry to hear about Bella's leg! I'll keep her in my prayers. |
Awe, I completely understand how worried you must be. Just think that more than likely, she will be just fine!!! Be strong for your girl!! |
Thanks :) I will definately keep you all updated I just hope it heals within the next couple of days, the vet was explaining a dogs knee to me and when he said if in 5 days it does not heal xtrays need to be done and possible operation with pins...argh I glazed over and wanted to cry... I know she will be okay tho! She is a trooper. Still does anything for her treat :D We dont even know what happened. Boyfriend said she was walking around and jumping around, then she went for a nap and woke up she started limping! I dont understand, she never jumped off anything and started limping, she woke up from a nap and started limping  |
Bella might have luxating patellas which means her knees slip in and out of the groove on their own. It's really common in Yorkies and other toy breeds. Luxating Patella: A Knee Problem in Dogs |

It might be the cranial cruciate ligament that is torn, which would cause the leg to be held up a good percentage of the time. Topics of Interest > Cranial Cruciate Ligament Rupture Or it might be a patella luxation. https://www.vetcentric.com/reference...ness&MODE=full Either way, surgery is the only option if she is holding the leg up. Find a good board certified orthopedic surgeon to perform the surgery. I would not let a regular vet do it in case something arises and they need to change the surgery or make quick decisions. The luxating patella is quite common in small breeds. it can be genetic or caused by a trauma. The rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament is usually caused by trauma. |
I hope she feels better soon. |

Thanks to all for your support. Thats why I love this forum :-) |
Hope she feels better soon. I had a yorkie years ago who tore his ACL ligament and he held it up all the time. I had surgery on him but he still held it slightly up. So hopefully Bella's is just strained. |
I will pray for little Bella! I had a Maltese, Isabella, who injured her leg jumping from an ottoman and the vet said she had a luxating patella. She was given some meds and never had a problem with it again. I hope this is the case with your Bella! |
If I were you I wouldn't let her keep "running around like a crazy dog." As I am currently going through the whole knee thing with Ranger, I would sure want to keep her as quiet as possible not to further aggregate the injury. I hope your girl is OK. This lay-up stuff is not fun. |
