Kenal Cough I recently switched to a new vet. They mentioned to me that Maddie had not had her Kenal Cough Vac. They did not seem pushy about giving it, so I let it go. Is this something she should have? |
It is a non-core vaccine and should not be given routinely to every dog. Most groomers, boarding facilities and vets (when your pup is staying overnight) require it. Without it she could get kennel cough and then pneumonia. With it she can get a milder case of kennel cough so I suppose pneumonia is also possible. It really depends on her exposure to other dogs. Personally I would try to get out of it but that may not be best for every dog. |
Maddie NEVER stays overnight anywhere but with me. And her groomer only keeps her 1-2 hours. He didn't require it so I am not going to give it to her. I just don't like all the vaccines there are now:eek: |
you really should get this vaccine if you get your dogs groomed, doggie day cares, or even boarding. I havent had my dogs get the bordtella vaccine for probably about 8 yrs now, and they have been fine. |
Nemo has been coughing a lot and my vet actually said that it could be because of his trachea (NOT what I wanted to hear) but he gave him the kennel cough vaccine and Nemo has basically stopped the coughing and pretty much only coughs when he gets excited...which made me totally excited! But still I would recommend it especially like the others said if you plan on having him around other dogs, etc. |
My two Yorkies only get the Bordatella shot if I am going to board them, because it's required. They aren't around any other dogs, so that's the only time they get it. |
