cat food for dogs? I have noticed when I buy puppy treats they are also too big. I have started getting cat treats because they are smaller. I get something that is 100% no artifical flavors. Is cat food the same as dog food? |
No cat food is not the same as dog food. Cats need more protein than dogs. If the dog only eats cat food, he gets too much protein and it can even result in protein poisoning. Likewise, cats should also not be fed with dog food because it is too less protein in it for them. |
cat and dog food are different, cat food is higher in protein, there are aalot of treats for small dogs, buddy biscuits is one, solid gold turkey jerkey you can break up, wellness has some treats that you can break up. |
That is something I would definitely not do! Cats are pure carnivores and the protein content in their food is much higher, as well as the fat content. Whereas dogs are omnivorous and require less of both. The extra protein and fat may cause diarrhea, weight issues, or worse. |
I wouldn't suggest cat treats for dogs. We give Shelby & Seymour crunchie treats. We get Itty bitty Buddy biscuits (the sweet potato madness flavor). They are really little.... perfect size. They are also ALL NATURAL!!! Made by Cloud star. ( www.cloudstar.com ) We also give them "Good Dog" dog treats. These too come in little sizes!! They come in Blueberry cobbler and apple dumpling and peanut butter & jelly. Shelby & Seymour LOVE the apple dumplin the best. They are made by sojourner farms. Also ALL natural!!!! ( All Natural Dog Food and Natural Dog Treats by Sojourner Farms ) We buy them at a pet bakery/store locally, but thought I would list the websites so you can find out if someone near you sells them.... or so you can order them! They are crunchy, but kinda "airy" so they are easy for them to chew..... (some treats can be so ridiculouly hard). __________________ |
Cat foods and dog foods are different. Can you post the ingredients and guaranteed analysis of the treats that you are giving? They may be okay. |
The treats are Temptations and Wholesome delights. Temptations say tartar control 2 calories per treat and the other say no artifical preservatives, flavors,or fillers. They both say 100% nutritionally complete. |

Cat foods and dog foods ARE different. Cat foods contain different levels of nutrients than are required for dogs, and they also contain ash, which is not found in dog diets. However, some cat treats can be a different story. There are two brands of cat treats that I will give to Meg. :aimeeyork I have done this under the guidance of an expert. The brands are as follows: VitaKitty by Catswell (sister company of Dogswell) - these treats are the same as the Vitality Jerky by Dogswell but have been softened with Vitamin E oil so they are soft and flexible. The chicken is all natural and cage-free, and the ingredients are: Chicken Breast, Flaxseed Oil, Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin A Acetate. Pure Delights by Wellness - these cat treats are bite-sized for Meg. I give Meg the Chicken and Lamb version. The ingredients are: Chicken, Lamb, Dried Chicory Root, Cultured Whey, Sea Salt, Lecithin, Mixed Tocopherols (a natural preservative). I like these products because they are small enough to actually be a treat for Meg. Some of the biscuits, even the Canidae "Snap-Bits" (for dogs), which are small-dog sized, are way too big for Meg's mouth and end up getting slowly munched on over the course of a day or two. |
Oh, and the Itty Bitty Buddy Biscuits by CloudStar are a great option, too! :animal-pa |
Can someone please tell my dogs and my cat about this??? They seem to prefer each others over their own. I can put the cats where the dogs cannot go but I cannot put the dogs anywhere. It is frustrating |
If the ingredients are safe for dogs and the fat content (dry matter) is under about 18-20%, cat treats should be fine. |
I have caught Zeppelin eating the cats food more than once. I stop him but I didnt know it was not safe for him.Now i know . Ill make sure he does not go near it now .Im glad i read this post. |
Just an update to let you know I ordered the Little Bitty Biscuits and they love them. Thanks |
