help with red/pink eye??? Hi all, I hope that I can get some help from my YT fellows. For the past 24 hours, I noticed that Duke's right eye has a lot more discharge than his left eye. The white part of his eye looks a bit redder than usual. This lead the hair around his eye to stick together and he looks so sad. His right eye is also not opening as big as the left one. He's 17 months old and this has never happened before. I tried applying a warm towel to relieve any discomfort and cleaning the area around that eye last nite but didn't seem to help. He is schedule to start his obidience class tomorrow morning and I want it to calm down a bit since I wouldn't want him to not feel well and has to go to class. Any suggestion, home remedy or medication? Thanks, ps. I posted this in the health section before but wanted to get as much advice as I can since I'm really worried about him. I hope it's ok that it's posted twice. |
I would take him to the vet as he could have scratched/poked his eye, poor baby. |

I would definaley take him to the vet. It might not seem so drastic, but when they actually look at it under black light, they can see anything from gauges, scratches, or even eye diseases. usually you would use cortizone cream for their eyes, but call the vet!!!!!! :animal-pa |
Eyes and vision are not something to let go undiagnosed and untreated. You really should take him into the vets. It very well may be pink eye, but it also may be that his eye got scratched somehow. Only the vet will be able to tell and if left untreated or self-diagnosed and treated incorrectly could lead him to loose the eye. And if there is any possibility that it's pink eye PLEASE do not take him to class tomorrow and risk infecting the others. Put yourself in their shoes, would you want someone bringing an infection to class for your baby to catch? |
I just took Tobie to the vet for the exact some thing except the discharge looked yellowish. She checked to see if he had scratched it but it turns out that it was just an eye infection. She gave me some eye drops and it cleared up within a couple of days. |
I would take him to the vet asap too. I just had to do this with my littlest puppy. The vet gave us antibiotic drops and it was better by the very next day. The drops were not expensive. I took him in for his follow up and the vet said since it was caught right away, there was no damage to the cornea. That was my concern. Being a half-blind glasses-wearer, I am always careful when it comes to the eyes. |
