BAD Breath
 
I just got my 2nd yorkie on Wed. a 2 yr old little girl. Obviously she was not taken care of all that well because she is a matted mess & our groomer appt is next Wed. But this dog has the worst breath I've ever seen (smelled) LOL. Too boot she refuses any toys or chewies!!!!! What can I do besides brushing of course to help little miss stinky? I HAVE DENTAL CHEWIES FOR MY OTHER DOG BUT THIS ONE DOESN'T PLAY OR CHEW ANYTHING!!!!

Milo is not a chewer either, no bones, no rubber toys the only chew he will take is the CET Hextra Chew in Petite you can get them on line or in some Vets office. they do make dental treats to help aid with the smell and I know that there are things you can add to the water as well. Have you tried washing her face? Sometimes that is part of the oder as well.

Yeah it's not her face it's just her stinky stinky breath!!! I just can't believe she doesn't chew anything, I've never seen a dog that didn't chew stuff before:confused:

Has she been examined by a vet? Bad breath can be caused by teeth issues and is also a symptom of liver shunt. Their breathe shouldn't smelled bad....there's a reason.

And also she may not want to chew because her teeth are loose and it hurts.

It sounds like she needs a dental.
After that I'd maintain it with CET toothpaste, MaxiGuard and OraVet.

Holy S**T!!!! No not by my vet yet. But I spoke to the previous vets office before I bought the dog (she's 2) & they said she was perfectly healthy & they have already faxed all of her paperwork to my vets office & they have looked over it & told me the old vet actually copied her chart & sent it to them & she looks good! The only thing is she isn't fixed & I have to save up alittle for that which I knew before I bought her. It better not be anything serious..............I swear. But I know the previous owners did not take good care of her they actually gave her to me in a big matted mess can you imagine?! So I hoping & praying it's just a mouth issue because liver shunt NEVER came to my mind! Oh God!:(

Could it just be the food you're feeding your pup? My lil guy eats royal canin and personally I think it smells absolutley horrible. I got him a dental chew and his breath is minty fresh :)

OK yesterday I went to Petsmart & got a toothbrush & doggie toothpaste to see if brushing would help little miss stinky breath & what did I discover when I finally got inside of her mouth?!....she has periodontal disease (I work for a dentist)! So now I know it's her dental problem causing her stinky breath & when I take her to the vet she will need a dental done. The poor little thing really was NOT taken care of by her previous owner at all. The brushing makes her gums bleed & I think I read about some type of gel that you just rub on their gums to help with this problem does anyone know the name of it? I feel bad making her gums bleed even though in humans I know the only way to help perio disease is to keep brushing & flossing to strengthen the gums. Also how often do you brush your dogs teeth? If I do it every day will the doggie toothpaste make her sick? Thanks in advance to anyone that answers:)
