Knee Surgery Questions Opinions needed Technical terms: tibial tuberosity transposition, antirotational suture, medial release, lateral imbrications Ok, too many big words for me!! My little Tudee, 2 yrs old a couple weeks ago, had the above surgery 1/28/2009 at Missouri Vet School (Columbia). She is crate bound and still is. 3 weeks ago, one of her pins punctured her skin, so off to the vet school for removal & x-ray (she was 5 weeks 1 day after surgery). When they did the x-rays that day, it was mentioned by the surgeon that her bone has still not healed. We are now 9 weeks post-surgery, and she is starting to get serious cabin fever, er crate fever. I am cautious big time, so in everyone's opinion who has gone thru this or has some medical knowledge, how long does it take the bone to heal? I have read numerous opinions on the net. I am willing to keep her crated for another 3 months, but by that time she will probably start writing letters to animal rights group claiming abuse <grin> Sorry for the long note, but had to explain the circumstances. Thanks for reading this........ Mary & Tudee |
I had a pom that had that knee surgry back in the early 90's. I don't recall it taking that long to heal. I found this sites that might have some answers.... Michigan Veterinary Specialists - Cruciate Rupture - Lateral Imbrication Technique Cruciate rupture - extracapsular technique |
Thank You lucyaboo!! thank for the links - they were more informative that what i've read so far. It looks like i still have to restrict some activity until we're at least 16 weeks out. I told her that this morning, and she's will to stay put until another 7 weeks just to be sure. Mary & Tudee |
