Diatomaceous Earth, have anyone used this? Last night I went to a holistic group discussion with my breeding mentor and the theme there was Diatomaceous Earth, is a parasite killer and it can be used topically and orally. There was a breeder who swears by it, but I had never heard of it. I called my holistic vet this morning and left a message the ingredients of the food grade are: 100% Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade Fresh water.. I did a google search and this is what I found.. "A non-toxic mineral of crushed fossils that can be used in feed daily, topically or around animals during the parasite season or year round for manximum benefit." I am going to do a bit more research and talk to Dr. Wills about it.. it sounds wonderful.. I am posting this on a few other boards to see what I can find about it.. hugs, Carmen in nj |
With permission to cross post.. from Robin.. "I use it on my toys, from puppyhood on up. I swear by it. I have never had anything except a clean fecal at their 6 week check ups. Not only does it keep away worms, but it prevents and eliminates coccidia and Giardia. It's also a wonderful health supplement for people (both my husband and I take it) (and dogs) adding benefits like healthy hair, nails skin, skeletal and digestive systems. It's a wonder supplement. Try this link for more info: http://www.earthworkshealth. com/ Here's another good link on the benefits for people and animals: http://www.diatomitecanada.com/fossil-shell-flour-benefits.htm Robin" HavanaSilkDogs Very interesting what Robin had to say about Giardia and Coccidia.. I am going to order a bottle and give it a go after I talk to Dr. Wills.. hugs, cArmen in nj |
Carmen, thank you for posting this, please keep us informed on how it goes. |
I've read a lot about it too, I was going to use it for fleas last summer. Anyone reading this though should know they should only use the food grade, do not use the kind for pools. |

Yes that was mentioned too, but I am really interested in the FOOD GRADE one for fleas and parasites.. the one that is safe to use around animals and humans.. They mention that the Chemical grade can be irritating to your lungs if inhaled, because it has added chemicals to help with filtering systems. The food grade one is 100% natural and very safe. that is what I got from the discussion.:) |
I have used it in my yard for years, but never on my animals. |
We use it all the time. With 4 pets going in & out...someone is bound to bring a flea into the house. |
I just bought a big bag, I am planning on using it in the yard and house. I got mine off ebay. |

The first site you listed didn't come thru. The second site you listed is meant for human consumption and didn't mention pets or fleas. However, it sure was food for thought when it did mention that nickle causes cancer, and that women who wear underwire bras 24/7 get cancer 125 fold over those who don't wear underwire bras. NOW, here is what got me to thinking. Since colon cancer in men is on the rise, would it be worth our time to see if our mens fly zipper contains nickle? It just may contain nickle since nickle is a very hard metal which would be needed in such things as zippers. Next, make sure if you go out to buy diatomaceous earth to combat fleas, you don't buy the type used in pools. That would be very dangerous. This is what you would need for fleas. Natural food grade diatomaceous earth flea and tick treatment information. I think we all need to take a much closer look at what nickle we and our loved ones are wearing. What about our pets. If you use a collar or harness that has any metal on it, could it be nickle as well? How do we know? What test can we run or have run? I'm going to ask my jeweler. |
I forgot to mention and a lot of gold and silver is actually mixed with nickle. If you wear a gold wedding ring that you wear 24/7 is 14K or less, then you may want to find out if it has nickle. |
I use it on my yard and my pets. Also add to food every couple months for parasites. |
yes, is very important to mention that we are talking the FOOD Grade here.. here's the link I was refering to and I read last night.. Pets and animals very interesting reading .. hugs, cArmen in nj |
