If Yorkies are 'hypoallergenic'... ...then why does my Yorkie have allergies  :D :D I've been to the vet twice in two weeks with regards to my Yorkies coughing, sinus and watery eye issues. At the first visit, the vet suggested it might be allergies, but to wait and see. At today's visit, she confirmed the allergy diagnosis and prescribed Benadryl. Daisy also has an ear infection, so I have antibiotic drops to use for a week or 10 days. Both the vet and her receptionist were so SAD to diagnose allergies in such a young puppy. Apparently, her allergies will grow worse as she grows older. :( I would appreciate hearing any stories of pups with allergies, what treatments you've done and how they are progressing! |
Sometimes they have allergies to food ingredients, shampoo's, soap, laundry detergent, and something even down to the air in your home. Mine had really bad itchy allergies to the corn ingredient in her food a while ago but I switched her food and it was all better. She has been itching again lately, and I wonder if she has allergies. |
There is a grwoing theory that allergies are brought on in perfectly healthy puppies due to the vaccines they are given and how their immune system is affected. I would consult a homeopathic vet in your area for a ntural remedy as they will know how to counteract any damage done by vaccines or simply haow to treat allergies period. Good luck! |
I feed her Canidae, which doesn't have corn, wheat or soy in it. I grate Natural Balance over her food, but it does contain wheat. I am going to eliminate that for the time being to see if that is the cause. Hopefully it's a food related allergy that can be controlled or eliminated. If it's a pollen related allergy, I can't control that. :( |
My guy, Willy, has the seasonal allergies. He starts itching, chewing his feet & sneezing about the same time as I do in mid August. I also have him on Benedryl. I use the pill version for him. I feel really bad for him, he looks at me with those sad, weepy eyes & I know exactly how he feels. It helps, but he still chews on his feet. I really look forward to the first frost, to get rid of this ragweed and we can get back to feeling normal again. Desiree :aimeeyork |
So sorry that little Sophie is having problems! We had a problem with Toto about a year ago and she was allergic to the dye in our new carpeting. She got a prescription, eye drops and we had to get the carpet cleaned. It cleared up and we didn't have another problem until July, this year. We began to notice her making a little "rattling" sound and thought it was coming from her chest. She was coughing and had a little runny nose. In reality, it was coming from her little sinus' and she got a prescription and it cleared up. With Toto's problems, it seems to be associated with something specific. This last bout, I believe was caused because we were home when I had a new heat pump installed and although they tried very hard to keep all the dust to a minimum, there was still some because of the hammering and installation of new ductwork, etc. Because I planned to also have one of the baths renovated while I was there I continued her medication and simply cleaned every day when the contractor finished. She seemed to be fine after a few days and we haven't had any more problems. Toto's really seemed to be triggered by "events". Hope little Sophie will be feeling better soon! ;) Please keep us updated. |
I think allergies are most commonly caused by the food they eat. My dogs eat Royal Canin but I want to switch to a better brand like Innova or chicken soup. |
