Ear problem One of my yorkies has a recurring yeast infection in his ears. My vet prescribes Panalog ointment, but it keeps coming back. I have had yorkies for 18 yrs and this is the first one I have ever had any ear issues with. I have a friend that says to try putting a little white vinegar in their drinking water and also to irrigate his ears w/ vinegar water to change the PH balance(She has English bulldogs that are prone to a lot of skin and ear issues). I haven't tried this yet. Has anyone here had this problem and what have you tried? |

I love Panalog and use it for everything..but, never used it for an ear infection. But, what I have learned is that some dogs ear infections are resistent to different antibiotics. What works on one, doesn't work on the other. Your dog may be one of those. There is, as I mentioned Otomax and Tresederm. The one thing to remember is to keep the ears devoid of hair and make sure that a drying agent is administered after every bath. |
I agree. Ellie's gets them but I have found that using a drying solution everytime they get wet is very important. It seems that this helps a lot. I don't pluck the hair but probably should. When Ellie does get an infection we use Otomax. For drying and cleaning we use Chlorhexiderm Flush. |
My vet prescribed otomax for Prada when she got an ear infection, and told me is very important to keep the ear canal free of hair and moist, I just started using calm ears on her after every bath, so far so good. no ear infections. hugs, CArmen in nj |

I get it from the vet. There are lots of ear cleaners out there though, so maybe your vet has something for you. |
When I first brought Mimi home, she had an ear infection from swimming in her past owner's pool, & the vet said she also had yeast infection. He prescribed Mometamax...it's an antibiotic for ears, heard that it doesn't get rid of the problem (so if it's a chronic ear infection this will only clear it up for the time being), she's been fine after that. It had to be applied (7-10 drops) into the ear for 7 consecutive days. The area around the ear gets all oily, but since it worked for her, I didn't mind...gave her a bath after the treatment. |
