Foods for Yorkies with MVD. Manolo just hates Science Diet ld, so on Yahoo support group they said he would like Royal Canin Hepatic LS but I could not find it at petsmart. So I was also recomended to us Avoderm Vegetarian. I bought him 2 cans and Boy he went crazy over it..Lots of good stuff like soy meat potatoes carrots no grain...Anyone tried this..I have to feed him 4 to 6 small meals a day...I see a big difference in him since his change of diet.... |
I know there are some conflicting views on Avoderm because it is thought that avocados are toxic to dogs. I don't know. It just isn't something I'd use. The RC is very palatable. You would have to go to the vet part in Petsmart to ask about it because it requires a prescription. Your vet should be able to get it in for you. There is also Natural Balance Vegetarian. If he is doing so well on the right kind of protein, maybe he won't have anymore seizures. If the diet change is helping, then he was symptomatic. Is he on lactulose? |
No, my vet only gave him that science diet ld and he hates it. I will have to get a pres. for the RC. He is 100% better. Running and playing like a puppy. Last week he did get into some chicken from the others, couldnt stop him but the next day he was slugish and I could tell that if he ate more he would seizure. I may be wrong but gut feeling. Im going to try milk thistle dont know how much to give him and whats another good supplliment for MVD. I have been reading the support groups info but there is so much good stuff to read. Thanks....Lissette |
Milk thistle dose at the bottom of this page: MILK THISTLE It should be given with vitamin e if you use the human form. otheriwse there is Hepatosupport. Since he is obviously symptomatic, Denosyl or Vetri DMG should probably be used. You could use lactulose and if he has any kind of neurologic symptoms, it almost becomes a must. |
