Car Sick How do you get a puppy over car sickness. I have taken her on short car rides 10 minutes at the most. Everytime Lola gets sick and throws up. Does anyone have any good ideas |
One of my little males who is a year old, still gets carsick. From advice here, I give him 1/2 of a "Bonnie" tablet. It's for us (humans) and similar to dramamine, but doesn't make him drowsy. My little man is a whopping 8.5 lbs, so check with your vet on the doseage. Given about 15- 20 mins before we start out, he does fine. Good luck.:) |
I have never heard of a "Bonnie" tablet...where do you get it from? Thanks |
It's over the counter.....get it from Walmart or any pharmacy. |

I will ask the vet she has an appointment soon. |
Sometimes they don't get over car sickness till they are older. Keep taking her on short rides as often as possible. Rescue Remedy will really help her keep calm. It's all natural (not medication) and is found at most health and vitamin stores. |
My yorkie used to get sick everytime got into the car. I started by timing his outing to be at least two to three hours after he'd eaten and taking him on short rides. I bought a car seat from ladogcompany.com and put it in the front seat (where he's less likely to get sick). My car automatically turns off the airbags when he's in the front seat, if your car doesn't do this, don't put your pup in the front! I started increasing the amount of time we spend out and slowly started taking him down freeway onramps that twist and wind. He's gotten use to it, but on long trips he still has trouble. I keep him buckled into his car seat with a puppy pad and he throws up on it instead of all over my car. |
my yorkies don't get car sick but i used to have a pekingese and he got carsick ALL the time. he's start getting the foamy mouth and look for a place to throw up in the car after 5 seconds of being in the car without the car even moving! i had to give him 2cc's of benadryl 30 minutes before each car ride and he'd be fine. you should ask your vet though :) |
Also, try to get them to look out the window. Since MY Lola grew large enough to sit on my lap and still see out the window, she doesn't get sick anymore. |
Xavier is a little over a year and he still gets carsick. The only thing I know to do is to give him the meds we got from the vet...I think there are a lot of good suggestions on here though! I'm going to try them! |
