What to feed after surgery? Millie had complications after her spay so had to have a second operation. She hasnt ate all week, and couldnt even keep water down before the operation. The vet wont be there when I pick her up, and I forgot to ask about feeding. What do you think. Should I leave stuff out for her or not? If so, what? I have some probiotic yogurts, soft dog food and chicken. (definitely dont think her kibble will appeal). |
I would try the chicken... Break off little pieces and try to feed it to her. Good Luck!:p |
Im so sorry you have gone thru this. I read your first Thread...Try some boiled chicken and some rice maybe cooked in a little broth. Does she like bananas. Yes I would also try and feed her some kibble. Make sure she drinks lots of water. And baby her. Its like a women having a hystorectomy. Takes time to heal and I hope she has some pain meds. If not call and get some. She is in pain. My Lola was out of it for 4 days. I brought her food in bed and carried her out side to go to the bathroom the put her back in my bed....Did the vet say what happened to her with the first surgery? |
Also try and post this in the sick and Injured. I think you will get more advice there.... |
Is she eating anything? You may consider that stuff everyone here recommends for new puppies to keep their sugar up. My GP had surgery for a blockage before and the vet told us the boiled chicken and rice or you can purchase some special canned dog food from the vet that's very bland for recovery after surgery...I don't remember what it's called, but I think it was Science Diet stuff. Garrett had to live on it for 2 weeks after surgery. He loved it and is hooked canned dog food w/his dry now. I'd leave food out for her none stop until she starts eating more. I hope she feels better soon. |
chicken and rice . Hope she feels better soon.:getwellso |
My Ziggy recently had a major GI surgery and getting him to eat was challenging. Go with whatever are your baby's favourites. We also tried: baby food (Heinz jr), Pure Bites chicken/salmon, scrambled eggs, boiled chicken/rice, kibble soaked in chicken/beef stock, canned tuna/salmon, probiotic yogurt, cheerios. Good luck. |
