Dark poopy, no appetite.. Sophie hasn't been wanting to eat lately. I got her to eat some food today but even with treats she didnt want. Yesterday she drank a lot of water, and just now she pooped and her poop was really dark, like almost black and firm. Does anyone have any ideas what she has? I think that she also vomited the other day but since they were all here i wasnt sure which of them did it, but it was brown with red spots in it, kinda like bloody. She already has an appt. with the vet coming up, but i was curious as to what this can be? |
Dark stools are potentially very serious as they can be from internal bleeding as the blood has been digested. Bright red blood is alarming, but usually not serious as it is fresh and usually comes from the lower intestines. Since Sophie also doesn't want to eat, I'd get her to your vet asap. I would say Vet also, is she acting normaly otherwise? |
Definitely the vet; melena( dark stools) is a sign of gastrointestinal bleeds. The upper intestine bleeds through peptic ulcer or infection, and the enzymes of the intestine try to digest the blood, causing dark, smelly stools to be passed. Keep us posted! Good luck |
