I had to take Millie back to vet
 
She had her spay on Wednesday and hasnt been well since.

She was actually ok when I picked her up on Wednesday, alert and eating. Then she had diahorrea on Wednesday evening and night. She hasnt ate or pooped since. She is sleeping all the time, and just not herself. I took her back to the vet last night, he gave an antibiotic and anti inflammatory, but couldnt find anything wrong with her. He said if she was no better today, to take her back in. So when we got home last night she was sick, and has been sick every two hours or so since, and trembling constantly.

He has her in today to monitor her. I was afraid of hypoglycemia setting in, as she has either had diahorrea or vomiting all week (she was sick on Monday because she ate pork and had to be fasted on Tuesday), so I gave her nutrical.

Oh. I hope she's better soon!

My Foxy had surgery a week ago and she's 16, so we've also been watching a post-surgical patient, too. Taking her back to the vet is the best thing to do...the Foxy had to go back in for an overnight on an IV, and she was in amazing spirits when she came home the next day. I hope Millie does the same.

It sounds like an IV is the best thing to do now.
What pain med is she on?

Hi all

She wasnt on any pain meds. She was given a long lasting painkiller injection after the spay, and that was it. She hasnt been given an IV. She is just being monitored at the minute.

The vet said it could be "gut-tie",

(which is hernia caused by a loop of intestine becoming incarcerated in a hiatus between the wall of the pelvis and the ductus deferens, caused by tearing of the fold of the ductus at castration. May occur many months after the castration operation. Can be resolved, if diagnosed early enough, by traction on the taut mesentery per rectum.)

but doesnt think it is and hopes it isnt. It will mean more surgery to find out, and sort it out.

Going back down to speak to him in 2 hours.

I just lifted Millie from the vets and she is no better. She has to go back in tomorrow again. Her put a thermometer in her bum, and said it came out too clean. Its looking more like a blockage of some sort. I think he is giving her the weekend to mend herself, but think he will tell me tomorrow that she has to go back in for surgery on Monday.

I know complications arent that common, but I wish I had never had her spayed.

(she is a healthy 5lb, 1 year old, so was more than fit for the surgery).

I am sick with worry at the minute.

Why in the world isn't she on pain medications?
She had a hysterectomy and now some type of complication.
She has got to be in a lot of pain even if she isn't showing it.
Some vets don't give pain meds for spay and personally I think it is very sad.

It sounds a bit risky to wait until Monday if she is very sick.
Can you get a second opinion?
