How long after spay before back to normal Millie was spayed on Wed morning. She was alert when I took her home. When she has gotten up on Thurs and Fri morning she has been reasonably active but by early afternoon she just lies down for the rest of the day. She will move between beds, and go for water, but she isnt playing or eating. Is this normal after 2 days. Was thinking if she doesnt pick up tomorrow it might be best to take her back to the vets. She is very sleepy but doesnt seem sore. |
That behavior is perfectly normal. It takes awhile for them to get over the soreness. As long as she is eating and not running a temperature I am sure she will be just fine. |

It usually take 3 or 4 days before they are up and about. by the third fourth day you will be trying to slow her down. enjoy it know she be back to normal, making up for lost times. LOL! |
She hasnt ate today. She wont eat her kibble, but she was eating chicken Wed & yesterday. She wont even eat the chicken today. She doesnt have a temperature. |
I called the vet and said that she had been eating and now wasnt and is a lot duller and sleepier than she was. He said to take her in, he checked her, temperature is ok, wound is ok, but not eating indicates something wrong. He gave her antibiotic and anti inflammatory injection, and said if she was no better tomorrow, bring her back in. She vomitted when she got home, but think that may have been the car. Will be keeping a close eye on her. I am probably over reacting, but its my first dog, first surgery, so I dont know what is normal. |
I don't think you are over reacting. Bella was back to normal the next day. They gave me pain meds. for three days. I gave them to her not because I thought she was in pain but just so she was not too crazy and hurt her self. I was surprised how fast she was herself. |
I just had little Portia spayed, 8 days ago. She had a very bad reaction to the pain medication, after bringing her home, and ended up with diarrhea, and upset stomach. The vet advised me to take her off of the medication, and she slowly came back to her normal self. She also had teeth pulled. She is only 3.5 lbs., and a year old. It is very scary when they are so little. Anyways, I added water to her normal food, mushed it all up, and fed it to her in small bits in the palm of my hand. I had to coax her, but she ate. i also gave her a little canned pumpkin, which she loved. Hope your little one will be back to herself real soon. Hugs Janice |
