Would Appreciate Advice - Vaccine Schedule for Young Adult Rescue I'll never know if our rescue stray dog, Vivi, ever received her vaccines. From what I understand this means the vet will proceed as if none were given. I am looking for advice on a vaccine schedule for a young adult dog. I especially would appreciate advice on how to split up the different types of vaccines. (Worried about over-vaccination diseases, etc.) Here is some information, if this helps with advice.... - Vivi was found on March 7 - She was checked by my vet and has no fleas or parasites - We cannot find the owner - We are keeping her :) - According to my vet, she is probably somewhere between 1 and 2 years old - She weighs 7 lbs. 11 oz. - She went into heat 2 days ago  - Not a Yorkie (hope it is okay to post here.) Thanks for your help on how to proceed cautiously. |
I'm not saying this is the right answer but it's probably what I'd do... I would proceed as if no vaccines were given. That would mean these would be equivalent to pup shots. Two doses about 4 weeks apart would be sufficient. Then a booster one year later. Then your schedule of choice after that (like Dr. Dodds or AAHA). This would go for DHP. Rabies would have to be given according to state law. I would not do the DHP and rabies on the same day. I would separately them by at least two weeks. You may be able to avoid vaccinating extra by titering. |

I don't see why you couldn't do them during heat but have never looked into that. |
1 Attachment(s) We are going through the same thing, not knowing for sure if our rescue has ever had shots. but she was only 13 weeks so vet guessed sense the last people had her for a month and didnt give shots that she never had any. so shes now on her 2nd visit of shots. heres the list the vet gave us see attachment. You might have to save and zoom in on it. |

Thank you so much for your help and advice. Now I feel like I can talk to my vet armed with some knowledge. :) I think I am going to wait one more week before the next appointment for her vaccines, so she get through most of this cycle. Just want her at her strongest, if that makes sense. (My other furbaby, Piccolo, has Vasculitis from over vaccinations, so I am pretty paranoid about this.) Anyway, you are much appreciated here! |

How is your rescue doing? Is she doing well with the rounds of shots? |
